Q: Does this work in a PS4?

Yes it should work on the PS4 as it still the right form factor, Gen 3 SATA III interface. I've not tried this WD device in a playstation as I have it installed within a PC. However, I installed a WD a green version in a PS4 and it been working fine. Do not format it, but you do need to reinstall the PS4 IOS from the Playstation store, first, so you need a valid PS subscription. Beware: SSD's are more prone to failing than Hard disks (HHD) and harder to recover data from. So if you are concerned over keeping your config, score data, then use a HDD. I had a one WD Blue fail on me after 5months of installing it. But my other all work fine and they were all old WD SSD's (This SSD is not PS 5 compatible - as PS5 needs a compatible NVME SSD version) I hope this helps, with your decision.
