The T-threads on the top of the Universal T-Adapter screw into a T-Ring (sold separately) that is designed to attach to the brand-specific mounting flange of your camera. The barrel end of the T-Adapter slides into the focuser, just like an eyepiece, and locks into place with the focuser or eyepiece adapter thumbscrew. Please note that some telescopes, especially "fast" refractors and most Newtonians, may not have enough focus travel to allow the photographic image to come to focus when used in prime focus mode. Can you take digital photos of images seen

You can and will require an adapter to mount a DSLR, digital camera, phone camera or webcam... but bear in mind the stars in the sky move as the Earth rotates yet this telescope will remain static - a lot of astrophotography require long exposures. This telescope does not have a motor that follows the movement of the stars, although I have seen you can get one for a reasonable price that fits to this tripod.

Am wanting a telescope for my 9 yr old son, I want a telescope that once set up he can use on his own. Is this the one for me??

The German Equatorial mount that telescopes of this kind use can be a bit of a learning curve. You almost need to have someone show you how to use it if you're a beginner (parent, friends or astronomy club) or see if you can find a good video on YouTube. So it might be to much to start off with, it really depends on how much interest you as parents have. If you go into Celestrons webpage for this telescope there is a manual to download if you want to look at it before buying. It should also be said that if your son is interested and keeps his interest then he will most likely need to learn to use German Equatorial mount at some point. The telescope you are looking at is a Reflector and is a great all-round scope. Another telescope type is called Dobsonian and the stand for those don't really require any setup. Sky-Watcher and Orion have good quality scopes and make Dobsonians in and around the price you are looking at.Whatever telescope you buy, also get a moon filter for it.
