Great jug. Prefer it over my Brita.
I have been using filter jugs a few years now and I remember when I was purchasing I could not find good comparative reviews, which is what I will try to do now. So, I am concurrently using this Aqua Optima jug with a Brita Marella jug, and in the past (while in the US) I had used a PUR filter jug. Therefore I can compare this to the Brita quite effectively, and also compare to my PUR experience. Of course, I don't have a lab to measure the actual filtration performance and will have to stick to what is perceivable to a regular user. Review Spoiler: I find it a great jug at an excellent price, better than Brita. Let's do a quick analysis. -Taste: This is the most important aspect for me and Aqua Optima does very well, it gives me water that is not far from good spring water. I had a similar experience with PUR filters, while Brita gives me water with a slight yet distinctive taste (which I can recognize in a blind test). -Filtration speed: Aqua Optima is the fastest of my jugs, with Brita second and PUR the slowest (especially when the filter is getting old). -Jug: It does not look as good as my Brita, but has better functionality (i.e. no problems) and more filtered water capacity for the same size. -Filter replacement: Brita has a fancy electronic countdown timer, while this Aqua Optima has a less fancy manual dial where you set the current month to help you remember when to change the filter. I am not crazy about either of these methods since the PUR water filters I used would come with a built in indicator that was dependent of the actual filtered water. For example, during the winter I change filters less often than during the summer (due to about half usage), which means Brita/Aqua Optima indicators are not very useful to me. The PUR filters would simply tell me when I had filtered enough water and it was time to change. -Price: It is cheaper than Brita (esp. if you buy double life filters), and as I said it seems to me that it is better too. So, I judge it to be a bargain! Summing up: Again, I cannot judge the chemical composition of the water that comes out of these filters, so I simply rely to my taste buds which tell me the Aqua Optima water tastes great, as clean water should. If you can get PUR (e.g. in the US) you will also have great tasting water, while Aqua Optima is also very fast if that is something that appeals to you. PS. This is almost the same text as my Brita jug review, for obvious reasons.

Good purchase
The water filters through the unit very quickly and the result is crystal clear water. Frankly I can't taste any difference between tap water and the result but that is probably me (I don't think my tap water tastes nasty). The result does seem to have something of the greater smoothness of bottled water. I can't get the lid back on and it was difficult to get off, but I can just rest it on the top, you don't need it on to pour the water. The spout is very good and you can accurately pour water through a small opening. Edit - I had the upper section round the wrong way, with it the right way round the lid is easy to get back on, but it remains difficult to take off. It's too big to fit in my small fridge (I will pour the water into a smaller bottle for drinking) but the design means it sits very nicely behind my kitchen sink. I like the number dial - it's a foolproof method and much better than some invariably unreliable automatic indicator. Overall very satisfied. Yesterday, 3rd February 2013, there was a burst water main in my area which cut out the water supply. When the supply was restored the water was totally opaque with a white substance for the rest of the day. I put the water through the unit and the result was totally clear water. Very good indeed.

Great product for the price
I've been using this jug for almost a week now, and I have to say it was a bargain for the price. Delivery was superquick, and it was easy to get started using it. I love the design of the jug, it holds quite a lot and it filters incredibly quickly. It feels very sturdy, and the clever flip opening in the centre of the lid is a great little touch as you don't have to take the lid off to fill the jug up! Pours really well, water tastes wonderful now. Ok its not as fancy as some of the water filter jugs you can buy, but in my opinion, to pay £[] for this jug plus a cartridge which will last me two months seems like an insane bargain. You can tell the difference in the water immediately. If you're not brand fussy and you just want a functional jug and you don't mind it not having the digital filter reminder, you can't go wrong with this.

Its ok
The cartridges does not last as long as they claim ,especially in hard water area's but that also applies to other brands. This filter comes of best because of its price.Much cheaper than the competitors.

A very good filter water jug + helps charity
Great filter jug. Slim enough to fit in an average fridge door tray if you want. I buy the 60 day filters. Works well and makes a noticable difference to all water based drinks you make and consume. The replacement filters can be bought in packs of 6, 12 and even 24 sometimes. As filters go, they are reasobaly priced. Also, support the Water One charity. The original price of the jug and filters is silly cheap. Somebody must be making them for free somewhere! Of course it's the lifetime value of the filter purchases that really counts. There's only two of us using it and the capacity is fine. A family might need a bigger unit. The filter passes the water through quickly although it does slow down as they get older and need replacing. There's a handy "click wheel" on the handle numbered 1 to 12 to set when the next filter change is due (or when you did the last one if you like). Anyway, I wouldn't put anyone off from buying this item. It does its job well.

AQUA OPTIMA FILTER FRIDGE JUG
What a purchase, I have been buying Britas filter and cartridges for absolute years, as we drink our tea black and live in a hard water area, there builds a terrible 'scum' like film on top of the tea and it's horrible. Filter water and it goes away. But over the years I've been satisfied with the old type jugs, but these new ones with all the new 'add ons' I find that they have gone too far. Ours broke only after a few months, but I didn't want another Britas, but unfortunately I couldn't find an alternative, until I went on line to Amazon and found this AQua Optima filter jug, it's quite simple to use, works beautifully and furthermore it's cheaper and the filters are half price and they last for 2 months. We've had it about 2 months now and just about to change the filter - we are very please with it.

Awful taste!! Do not trust other reviews
I read so many good reviews regarding the Aqua Optima products and I fell for it. I bought the Aqua Optima Jug and the 2 years supply filters of the same brand. I never had a water filter before and the water in my city is not considered hard. Aqua Optima claims that it removes about 80% of chlorine and limescale and improves taste. I do not have a laboratory to check about the chlorine and the limescale levels but I can verify this: THE TASTE IS AWFUL!!! Filtering takes about 35 seconds to filter 1 glass of water of 250ml. As I said I never had a filter, I always drank either from tap or bottled water. After the filtration the water taste becomes sour with a strange bitter taste. Tap water tastes BETTER unfiltered! All the advertisement was about the taste and that it tastes like bottled water! FAR FROM IT! I tried cold, lukewarm water, got the same result (cold water has even stronger sourness in taste). When you drink the water it seems that you just cannot fulfill your thirst! Pros: -Big jug capacity -Relatively cheap filters Cons: -Water tastes awful after filtering (sour & bitterness) -Water color is a little bit darker after filtering (Aqua Optima claims that particles of the filter are safe) -Cheap build quality of the jug -Lack on the design of the plastic cover (has to be inserted carefully to the gap or it will break) -Filter changing indicator is a joke (a rolling mechanical switch with numbers between 1-12) Conclusion: A big waste of money, stay away from this product & Aqua Optima. I have not tried Brita or other filter products so I am not aware if they have the same results. Please note that I just compare NORMAL TAP WATER or BOTTLED WATER VS AQUA OPTIMA FILTERED TAP WATER.

With a 1/10th star removed..
Great water jug that actually fits my fridge (just over 3 1/2", 9cm wide) with an excellent hinged filling cover that saves lid removal all the time. I like that the hinged cover just drops out of place with the force of water falling on it and then closes when either the top compartment is full or you stop the water (or both). The water filter does it job well with the brackish taste removed from my (Scottish) water and makes a luvverly cup of cha. The minus 1/10th star? The filter indicator is a little roll top thing where you select the month;that's it. However, until age finally gets me I think I can remember to change a filter or the taste will remind me. Simple assembly instructions which if you follow, you will not get bits of black carbon or blackish water in your jug (I did get both then read the instructions..solved)
