Perfect flavor!
This time of year I love to have Pannetone, but manufacturers have cut way way down on the number of orange peel pieces, so it was either not bother eating it at all, or get my own orange peel! The quality and flavor of this one is more delicious than I could have ever wished for. And it's not overly sweet and sugary either. If you're looking for a true orange peel experience, you'll not be able to find anything better than this.

If You "Orange" Sure Yet, Read this Review
I bought these to put in biscotti and brownies. They are exactly what I need. In the past, I've purchased swankier, more expensive candied orange peel, and it's beautifully, perfectly soft and delectable and came from Italy on the wings of a now extinct bird or whatever it was my friend told me when she said that's what I needed. It wasn't. The expensive stuff is wonderful when the candied orange peel is standing alone with a dip of dark chocolate and needs to be extra fancy or as garnish for the top of a special occasion cake, but for regular weekend baking, like the biscotti in the photograph, this is what you need. A pan of brownies becomes something special with a big handful of these chopped to bits and thrown into the batter. Scatter some dark chocolate chips across the top for a real treat. This Christmas, I plan to make classic fruitcake for our family's socially distant gathering this Christmas, and this orange peel will absolutely be in it. I only gave one star for "Giftable" because most folks aren't as enthusiastic about baking products as I can be.

Quality product
Mine came in a different container. It is a little more bitter than I would have liked. I think they left too much of the bitter pith on the peels. When I make homemade food using the whole orange, I take 75% of the pith off so the dish is not quite so bitter. It will be good for my baking to add some contrast to the sweets. It is soft and very fresh and I could never in a million years find such a quality product where I live! I would have to make it and if you have ever made candied fruit, it is quite a process! I would purchase this product and others from Olive Nation.

Very good coated in dark chocolate
I love chocolate covered orange peel. A while back, my daughter, who is a chef, made me some for my birthday. She told me that she could teach me how to make it. It is not that difficult, but does take a long time. I bought this to see how it would work. ZWhen it arrived it was not quite what I was expecting. The inside of the bag seemed moist and there was sugar syrup, or something in the bag. It does not look like home made (or chef made) candied orange peel, and I have not tried it uncoated. A few days ago I melted a good quantity of Scharffen Berger 70% dark chocolate and coated about half of the bag of orange peel. It was not quite as good as what I have purchased at (high end) chocolate shops, nor as good as what my daughter made, but it was very good, a great deal less expensive and very very easy. I am not sure I would enjoy these without the chocolate coating, in large part because they are very sticky, but they do make very good chocolate covered orange peel (and I would personally recommend the Scharffen Berger 70% dark for a great combination).

Maybe fine for baking and cooking, not for eating like candy
This is certainly not an orange peel candy product, it is like a candied citrus you would buy for a fruitcake. The pieces I received are tough, not easy to chew. They need more time cooking to soften up. They are also sticky, you could probably roll them in sugar to make something like the traditional orange peel candy if you don't mind the toughness. They are sticky enough to hold onto the sugar, just put them aside to dry out. I tried making a batch of candied orange peel at home and they were so much more tender and tasted like orange rather than the chemical taste and smell from the purchased product. I took the peel from 6 oranges and it yielded more peel than came in the purchased bag. I know this is a labor intensive item to do right, they left too much of the pith on the slices and this makes the strips taste more bitter and also adds to a smell. The extra cooking and draining would make the slices more tender and tasteful. I should have read the reviews more carefully and saved myself some money.

The packaging does not survive shipping!
I have ordered twice. The first time with other items. That package was damaged and product loose in the shipping box on other items. Second order, I ordered in a separate order. The package was once again damaged, but only liquid had leaked out. This Olive Nation candied orange peel is a wonderful product! Wonderful flavor, easy to incorporate into your baking! Or as a quick flavorful, sweet snack. The hard, brittle packaging does not survive shipping.

Perfect for traditional recipes
I saw a lot of reviews about how flavorless these are and was reluctant to try them. I took the plunge, and I'm so glad I did. I make a lot of traditional Swiss recipes for Christmas, and I go through huge amounts of candied orange and lemon peel. I've spent years dissatisfied with the quality that was available at the grocery store and other retailers. These are exceptionally good quality at an great price. Thank you Amazon for making such a quality ingredient easily available. I will never do my Christmas baking without these again! As for the negative reviews, these aren't candy. If you want obnoxiously sweet orange flavor, buy gumdrops.
