Tired of stuffy New England, Prudence Bell (Suzanne Pleshette in her first major film role) longs for a Rome Adventure. So she heads for the Eternal City and encounters a handsome student (Troy Donahue), a dashing older man (Rossano Brazzi) -- and competition from a wily woman of the world (Angie Dickinson). In his fourth collaboration with Donahue (the first was A Summer Place), writer/director Delmer Daves again proves his skill at bringing the heartbreak and joys of romance to the movies. Here, Daves also lushly captures the incredible art and architecture of Rome. Then, in several beautiful scenes, his young lovers take a holiday to the Italian Alps, Verona, Pisa, Lake Maggiore and more breathtaking sights. How romantic is Rome Adventure? Well, stars Pleshette and Donahue married two years later! Review: Rome Adventure - An excellent movie. I could watch it again and again and again. In fact I have. Beautiful music, especially the main title theme. Whilst Al Di La is lovely; and yes indeed extremely romantic, the main theme music is superb. Scenery is also superb. Suzanne Pleshette is staggeringly beautiful. How could you not want to take her on a holiday around Italy!! Troy Donoghue is a little 'limp' though I felt. But I'm not sure whom I might have replaced him with in 1962?! Certainly NOT an American, as she went to Italy, for 'THE EXPERIENCE', it should have been passed on by a local, maybe Louis Jourdan (but he's French); surely an Italian would be needed! But whom? Suggestions anyone? I disagree with the other review suggesting Cary Grant. Wonderful and all as her was, even then he would have been too old and the wrong cultural background. Rossanno Brazzi was very good in the movie; (but, like Grant), just a little too old for her to create a realistic love interest, especially for 1962. Angie Dickenson smouldered - boy did she smoulder. What wonderful casting to put her opposite the innocence of Pleshette (in her first starring role). Please please please, where are all the Suzanne Pleshettes' today? Her smile, her eyes, her outfits, the dresses, the 'heels'. Here final outfit when she tries to seduce Rossanoo Brazzi - exquisite! Come on girls - get it together!!! A great shame that Suzanne did not appear in other movies of this ilk, instead of those lame duck movies with Dean Jones. Indeed Suzanne deserved much better in terms of leading roles. A very sad loss when she died in January 2008 from respitory problems. Possibly that awfully sexy voice of hers, was caused by other things!? Review: Beautiful Movie, Music & Scenery - Fell in love all over again with the movie, music and Rome. I am enjoying watching this movie over and over again just as I did when it came out in 1962! I had never been to Rome when movie was first released. Since that time, I have visited Italy twice. While there, the song Al-di-la went through my mind many times and it was fun to recognize so many places that I had seen in the movie. Rome Adventure is a wonderfully romantic and delightful story. Suzanne Pleshette, Troy Donahue, Angie Dickinson and Rossano Brazzi all made Rome a most enjoyable adventure. Sure hope it will be available on DVD in the near future.

Rome Adventure critique
I saw Rome Adventure when it first came out in the 60's and since have seen it about 28 times and never owned a copy of it. When I saw it was available on Amazon, I immediately bought the DVD so I can watch it 28 more times. It's such a great movie. The background music is lovely, the storyline is like a typical romance novel and the scenery is just terrific. It has a great cast and it's a feel good movie. If you liked the movies back in the 60's, you'll love Rome Adventure. Give it a try.

Great love story, and the views of Europe are fantastic!
It’s an old movie I remember from my teens. The scenery is beautiful? The acting is good. I love Suzanne Pleshette, and everyone in it.

Take a trip to Rome; listen to love songs; and watch the screen heat up!
This is one sappy, corny, yet scenery-loaded movie that is like a train wreck....you just have to watch it and can't turn away! The story is about a college librarian (Suzanne Pleshette) who - rather than get fired - quits her job because she loaned one of the students a "lurid" book about adult love. She gets on a ship and travels to Rome to experience love. There, she meets an architect (Troy Donohue) and, what else, they fall in love. There's an ex-girlfriend of Troy's (Angie Dickinson) who causes havoc and dreamy Rosanno Brazzi who lusts after Suzanne. The song ":Al Di La" premiered in this movie and the background of Rome and other Italian cities they visit is fabulous. Troy is handsome, as always, but couldn't act his way out of a paper bag; Suzanne fits the role beautifully (it was her first movie role); and the supporting actors are great. It is glorious to see Rome NOT packed with tourists wearing shorts, rubber flip flops, and baseball caps. The era of this movie shows women taking pride in how they present themselves and men wearing dinner jackets in the evening. That alone should warrant watching this movie! It's a chick flick - nothing more. If you watch it with that in mind, you will have a wonderful travel - and love story - experience for 1 1/2 hours.

Fabulous! romantic, cultural, artsy.
Beautiful Italian scenery, Italian culture, many famous historical architectural antiquities shown. Beautiful detailed stone buildings such as carved cathedral with murals and mosaics. Mostly English with some basic Italian spoken. Beautiful countryside and lakes. If you cannot afford to go to Rome Italy watch this. You will learn some interesting things, including lessons about love. Sweet, intimate, authentic. Enjoy!

Enjoyable from start to finish. Exceptional cast: the Italians were original, Rossano Brazzi was particularly loved by young and mature ladies for his gentle latino charm; the American T. Donahue was the "bello" and Suzanne Placette , the leading female star, plays the young American girl who is about to go on a self-discovery tour to Europe, of which Rome is the chosen preferred destination; an early rebel before the swinging 60s, she honestly values and reflects on her feelings for people, although she remarkably resembles Elizabeth Taylor, she has a skill and a charm all their own. This movie captures the Italian sensibility marvellously, and at times reminds the previous Roman Holidays, with Peck and Hepburn. Many years have now passed, many of the old buildings and bars or restaurants have been replaced, but the Italuan atmosphere is still the same, to me, as when I was a child. It is still very watchable: we are kept in suspence till the very end, the viewing is perfect and the colurs so vivid; last but not least, Angie Dickinson is at her best and the song "Al di la'" , is still a hit that Connie Frances sang herself. If you love movies and are planning a trip to Italy, you may enjoy watching it.
