I had never read Garcia-Marquez before and now I want to read more
I had never read Garcia-Marquez before and now I want to read more. He writes super well is super clearly, with an easy language (even though you can always see he has artistic objectives and is not just trying to write a best-seller). I think the strongest characteristic of this author is his storytelling. He excels at it. In the end, the book gets a little bit off track, there is less development and maybe some stuff happen too quickly. But it is definitely a worthy read.

Enter Marquez's primitive demonic lovelorn world
If you are familiar with Garcia Marquez you will find here all that you might expect: fantastic situations and characters, fabulous exoticism, the desolate poetry of longing, heartbreak, alienation. His unique literary creation is like a teeming jungle overgrown with abundant wildflowers. His universe is as beautiful as it is original; as vivid and colourful as it is heartbreaking. Here his sublime creation, the ill-fated young girl Servia María, bitten by rabid dog, is suspected of demonic possession and interred in a convent where she is subjected to the rigours of exorcism. A love story will blossom, but what is the power of love pitted against the satanic machinations of a darkened world full of ignorant paranoic violent and you could say diabolic beliefs. This is Marquez, the novel is rich with characters, and each sentence enlivens, enrapts and fascinates. His imaginations stretches and enchants ours. His language, especially in its original Spanish, is beautifully wrought. Servia María, with her magnificent head of uncut hair, her innocence and her beauty, will possess you long after you have finished reading her story.

Forced to read it for class, reread it for pleasure.
This is a captivating story that offers a nearly comical look at the issues that have plagued Catholicism for a millennium. GGM somehow keeps the action coming even with a noticeable lack of concrete action. This dance between medicine and the supernatural (or science vs religion) has been a wonderful read. On a different note...though I would consider myself muy advanced/fluent when it comes to Spanish as a second language, this book was exceedingly easy to comprehend. So, if you are looking to fortify your language skills, this may be a nice option for that.

Captivating
I'm not fond of Garcia Marquez, I hated his political ideology and his close friendship with the criminal Fidel Castro, together with accusations of him as mediador activity between colombia/Mexico/Cuba drug trafficking. Although this book was great for me, I was caught from the first page! I did admired his colonial knowledgement and geniuses.
