I'm a folk singer. One of the songs in my repertoire is "Midnight Special". I start my arrangement with a train whistle. For many years I just used the guitar to simulate this sound. Then I used a Native style flute. But when I saw this "horn" on Amazon, I decided for a few bucks I'd try it. I was very impressed with how it created a sound closer to a real train whistle. So now I start that song with the simulated train sound coming from this "horn". I'm sure that most people looking at this item are only looking for something for their kids to play with. It's probably pretty good for that too!

Saw many "Train Whistles" listed and settled on this one - it works perfectly and sounds great! I was initially worried because so many of the others train whistles had bad reviews for not working ... this one works great and has four-ports vs many of the others which only have two. Purchased for part of a costume and it met my needs perfectly. I had a friend that got 20 of the the two-port whistles and 75% of them did not work ... I would recommend this model to anyone looking for a train whistle.

Whistle is clear and sounds like a train as expected. Well-crafted. Wood is smooth to the touch (no splinters). Hold the whistle in the middle to ensure that the openings are not blocked. I don't recommend submerging whistle to clean it without potentially damaging the integrity of the sound, so if you plan to share it with others or you wear lip balm/ gloss/ lipstick that may leave a coating or stain, you can cut a small square of tissue and secure it with a rubber band. Make sure to cut a small hole in the opening at the top and that the openings on the sides are unobstructed. I use it with my kindergarten class to call the students' attention to transition to the next center.

We put on a community Jamboree every year and this year we added a train which was became the biggest feature of the event for the kids. I purchased a three pack of these whistles for our conductors. They are made of wood and are very sturdy. The sound of each whistle are the same as another and they do sound like the old trains. The reason for 4 stars is that they just aren’t loud enough. Blowing harder doesn’t increase the sound. If your not running a tractor it’s probably fine for your needs but with a tractor, it can hardly be heard. It would be great for kids or even adults who love train sets, just not for things like this.

Maybe I didn't read all the reviews too closely, but it's 4 different whistles, didn't know that and it sure surprised me when I first tried it. You can also cover an escape hole or holes as you blow to cut down the number of whistles blowing and change the sound. As just about all of the other reviews stated, the sound is quite impressive, loud, full, realistic. A little bigger than I thought, you might be able to stop a burglar with this thing. And don't throw away the paper packaging thing it comes with, on the back it has train whistle signals (-... means "Flagman protect rear of train"). Can't believe it was $5, now I'm gonna dvr alot of Petticoat Junction and get an engineer's hat.

Perfect train whistle for toddler. Sounds great. I saw on other reviews that it wasn't loud and honestly, that's a plus for me, I'm not going deaf so I think it's the perfect volume.

This whistle is well worth the money. Great stocking stuffer! It's large and does a few different whistle tones.

It sounds like a train whistle, quality made. It’s a great cue for my kindergarten students to sit in a circle for our welcome train song. The kids think it’s cool too

Necesita tantita lija porque en un lugar está un poco aspero y no suena super fuerte pero el sonido es muy bonito
