Good, not great. Edit: Now Dead at the under two years old mark
As of May 23rd 2023, this thing is dead. Just won't even power on anymore.Leaving the rest of the review as it was when I wrote it. But I would now simply pass on this one and move on. With the minor issues I had, I was ok with it, but now that it is completely dead after less than two years, no way I could recommend to anyone to get this particular unit.We have this installed and in use for about 6 months now. We use ice all day, every day. In addition to many beverages, both of our dogs have been trained using ice cubes as treats, so ice gets used up pretty fast. (to the dog thing our giant mastiff can handle the cubes from this machine, but the smaller dog gets ice from the built in one in our fridge, much smaller... just in case you are worried about them).Almost everything about this machine is good. Super easy to install, no drain needed, makes a ton of ice. Not loud or anything. The negatives are, as at least a few others mentioned, this thing ends up more or less freezing everything in it to a giant block except the most recent top layers. Once every few weeks I get too annoyed and dump the whole thing and defrost it. It's not a big deal, but it's annoying. The whole unit does frost up a bit from time to time around the ice maker too, but so far has not yet caused a problem. Sometimes you get a block of 2 to 8 "cubes" stuck together too. Can usually just bust those up with the scoop though. Now, going back to to the whole thing freezing into a block - it's absolutely true that when it gets too frozen up you WILL hurt yourself trying to get a few pieces out of the giant block of ice. That's usually the point I defrost it. We also replaced the plastic ice scoop that is shipped with it with a metal restaurant grade scoop. That helps, a little, with breaking up the ice, but not enough - and note, you obviously can't store that inside the machine.Would I buy it again? Probably not, but I'm also not going to replace it anytime soon unless it dies on me.I gave it a 3 out of 5. It's probably a 3.5, but it's few problems are enough of a problem at this price point to have me rounding down, not up on my star rating. At half the cost I would have given it a solid 4, but at this price point, no way.

Impressive Unit!
Really Impressed with this ice maker for multiple reasons. First, it is installed in our garage - in Florida. Air temps reach 90 F in the garage. Our supply line water temp is in the mid-80s F. I was concerned that the air/water temps may too high for ice production. No worries - the EdgeStar IB250SSOD produced plenty of ice. Next, it is a quality machine. Edges, seams, and fit are all smooth, straight, and clean. And it is a quiet unit. It came double-boxed, and the stainless steel was clean and flawless. Instructions and on-line documentation are also excellent. I had no trouble reversing the door. I noticed that the back of the unit felt warm/hot near the compressor area. So I attached an external muffin fan to the back of the chassis to suck air through the unit - just as a precaution. Perhaps the fan will extend the life of the unit for me.March 14th, 2025I have purchased hundreds of items over the last 23 years - yet have written only 5 reviews. This ice maker is one of those reviews, and it deserves an update. I have been running this ice makerin the garage non-stop for over 5 years, and I generally draw off half-a-bucket of ice each work day.It has been a flawless machine and looks as good as the day I opened the box.It had a minor issue of dripping water from the ice maker, but leveling the unit and adding alittle Plumber's Putter around the fill tube resolved the dripping - not a big deal.Yes, it does frost up, but easy enough to defrost in a couple of hours. No compaints here, and high marks on this well built machine.

Junk--Built-in Obsolescence
Initially, this seemed to be a good purchase. It was easy to install, it made plenty of ice, it was quiet, and it's attractive. But after about two years, the ice seemed to be "wet" and there was a thin layer of water on the bottom of the ice bin. It was apparent that the unit wasn't cold enough. It still made ice, but the quantity of the water at the bottom of the bin continued to increase, and the ice cubes began to melt into each other to form a single, big, useless block of ice.Take a look at the photo. Now, after four years, the ice maker still produces "wet" ice, but within a few days the ice bin is typically filled with a couple of inches of cold water, atop which sits 20 pounds of melted-together ice cubes. No ice is available except what I can chip from the block with a hammer and screw driver.Customer support is very responsive...with non-sensical answers. Had I followed the advice of the three different support personnel I worked with, I would have changed every component in the machine by now. After so many horrid reviews which describe the same issue, the company really should have come up with a solution by now. It's really nothing more than a self-contained version of the ice maker one would find in a refrigerator. I don't know why this is so hard.Cheap Chinese junk. Can't overstate how crummy this machine is. I recommend you stay away.
