A fantastic chair - with fantastic support - both kinds!
I'm generally a big fan of Amazon, I've been a Prime member forever, and I buy, well, almost everything from them. I've often been impressed with their AmazonBasics line, and this chair is no exception. Since many questions come up about comfort and support, I'll mention that I'm 5' 7", 215 lbs, 48, male. Not huge, but definitely overweight. I've gone through many chairs - some just wearing out, and some I've had to get rid of. Most "normal" chairs tend to bend, wear out, or come apart in some way, after a while, and while I tend to prefer "heavy duty" chairs, those chairs tend to be so uncomfortable after a time that it's like sitting on wood. So I admit I was hesitant about this chair - but two things caught my attention: the fantastic price (compared to other chairs), and the AmazonBasics name. While it is true that "Basics" implies... well... "BASICS".... this is BY FAR the most comfortable chair I've ever owned. The part you sit on has a perfect and generous amount of cushioning that has stood up to repeated use, and still remained soft. I frequently have pain at the base of my spine, and I *notice* when a chair is uncomfortable. With other chairs, I"ve had to use pillows or extra padding, but this chair is absolutely amazingly comfortable, even after 7 months of constant use (purchased this in February 2016). The seatback is also awesome - it's made of a kind of nylon mesh netting - not metal (as you'd think from the pictures) but soft material. This stuff is so much more comfortable to lean back into than any normal chair back I've tried, that I find myself leaning back into OFTEN - whereas with other chairs I would avoid leaning back at all. So... bottom, back, lumbar support - all there, and really amazingly nice. Of course... BASICS. So the armrests don't adjust and are not adjustable even during assembly - and the same for the back. The back does "go back" a little, and there is a "push to lock" option on the control arm - but that's it. Up/down, lock/unlock, that's all you get. (There's some kind of knob on the front that I suspect controls tension, but I never mess with it, it doesn't seem to make a difference to me.) Assembly was easy. The screws take an alan wrench (hex key) tool, which comes with the chair. I've seen people commenting on screw holes not lining up, causing the back plate to overlap the bottom plate. Here's the thing: IT'S SUPPOSED TO. Just follow the instructions, assemble the chair in order, and tighten it down. The chair will come out fine, and perfect, and you'll love it. Assembly was typical for an office chair - but I was able to do it myself. This chair is lighter than most, which makes assembly quite easy. Now... not all is sweetness and light here. About 7 months in, the cylinder in this chair started to fail. I'd be sitting on the chair, and it would suddenly JERK downwards about half an inch. Then it would wait about 30 minutes, and JERK down again. UGH! It was not fun! But here's where the AmazonBasics (and Amazon!) really shines: Since this is an "Amazon Product", there is a one-year warranty noted right on the product page... and it's administered... BY AMAZON! YAY! They didn't even make me call some other number or company or anything. I just went to MY ORDERS, hit the "Return or Replace" button - this was 7 months later, mind you! - and sent a message. Within a few hours, I heard back from an agent asking if I'd like a refund, or a new chair? WOW! Really? Awesome! I mean... I was a little sad that they couldn't just send me a new cylinder and bottom part or something, but, hey, a whole new chair, okay. They sent it free, with free overnight shipping, and i had it the next day. And let me just amplify on this: I kind of wanted to try to fix this myself. I saw on Amazon where they have replacement cylinders you can buy. And if you have a big hammer, you can apparently "bang out" the old cylinder and replace it with a new one. Not so for this chair: The bottom piece which bolts onto the bottom of the seat cushion, and into which the cylinder fits, is a CLOSED assembly. You can remove it from the chair, but you cannot disassemble it further in order to bang the cylinder out. So don't even try. If you have a cylinder problem within the warranty period (a year), just let Amazon handle it for you. If it's post-warranty, you'll either need some kind of special clamp-on tool (Amazon has these - some of the cylinders come with them) to force the cylinder out from the outside (too much for me, I didn't try that), or you'll just need to buy a new chair. Which, knowing how great this chair is, I'd do in a heartbeat. So, again, a really great product from AmazonBasics, with the absolute top-tier support that you'd come to expect from Amazon. Buy this chair with confidence, it will serve you well!

Excellent product. How did they do it for that price?
Have to admit that I didn't think I'd like this chair as much as I do now. It does everything very well, is comfortable, gives me good lumbar support, and is sturdy and well built. About the only thing that is a pain is if you eat anything and get crumbs on the mesh seat, you just can't sweep them off, you must vacuum them off. I am 5'9" and 160 lbs and this fits me like a glove. Not very often you get more than you pay for, but this is one of those times. Highly recommended and an exceptional buy if it fits you. Have had it a couple months and I expect we'll get a long life from it.

Good deal for your money. I don't think you can go too far wrong.
I really kind of like this chair. The last time I bought an office chair was around 15 years or so ago for $150. Real nice - leather seat and back - chrome leather-covered arms. Kind of modern style. Quite comfortable and very stylish. Where I bought it is out of business. I've seen what I think is the same chair at a local store for around $400. I asked them if they would tell me the manufacturer so I could order a new leather seat as the current one ripped at the stitching so now I'm sitting on the frame. They wouldn't. So basically for lack of a seat the chair is ruined. Actually, I have two of them in the same condition. So I needed a new chair. I went to the local big box stores but wasn't really thrilled with what they had. So I went on line and found this chair. Good reviews. Very inexpensive. So I bought it. How bad could it be? I was expecting something pretty bad to be honest. But it isn't. Very quick to assemble (very positive in my book - all parts are well labeled and even someone who can get lost in a paper bag will be able to follow the directions) and quite comfortable. I'm not thrilled with the mesh back. To me it doesn't look particularly durable but who knows? Hopefully it will surprise me. For the money, if it lasts a couple of years I won't feel bad. If it goes longer than that I think I will be ahead of the game. Still much better than what the big box stores are offering for twice the price. UPDATE - Three years and a few months have gone by and my fears about the mesh back were totally unfounded. Chair is still like new and has proven to be an excellent purchase. I would buy again with no hesitation. UPDATE 2 - Four years and nine months later and the chair still looks like new. This has turned out to be a really excellent purchase! UPDATE 3 - November 2023 now. I bought this chair in January 2016. In two months it will be eight years. My fears about the mesh back were unfounded. The chair still looks like new. It is still comfortable. Everything works as expected. Frankly, I'm really surprised. And really happy. Buy this chair if you need a chair. You won't regret it. UPDATE 4 - September 2025 now. Chair is finally starting to show some wear. For the past year I've been working from home. Which means the chair has been getting a lot more seat time. The seat is showing some wear on the edge. And the mesh back is finally starting to fail - about 6" of the right side is no longer attached. That said, it still sits fine and after nearly 10 years I have no complaints whatsoever. I think another year or two and it will likely be time to start thinking about a replacement. And when that time comes I will have absolutely no qualms about ordering another one of the exact same chair.

All and all a good buy
All and all a good buy. All the parts were there and none of the parts were damaged. The packaging was pretty well. Instructions were easy, and none of the parts were complicated. The chair came with extra parts, which I appreciated. The parts seemed a little heavier than I had imagined, and holding up the whole cushion to put the back was a bit of work. Chair itself is more than decent for the price. The cushion is nice, and firm, but soft too. The armrests, like a lot of comments are a bit low. For a shorter person, can probably still use them if leaning back. Chair arms rest a bit closer or further though to the seat depending on where you bolt the arm rests. Back support is pretty good. Tilts back well, and no issues adjusting up and down. I've been sitting in this chair for the past few days 8+ hours each day, and it has been very comfortable. I am considering buying another one for an extra desk. Other comments: The arm rests do not move left/right like some office chairs do - though, not complaining for the price. As a shorter person, the back lumber of the mesh was a bit off when I sat all the way back. For average height, would be fine. For very tall people, the lumber might be off as well. So, for very short and very tall people who sit with their backs and butts all the way against the chair for a long time, that may be something to watch out for as there is a considerable curve to the back. Would give it 4.5 round to 5 stars. It is an excellent chair, if you fit in it well. Note: The instructions was tucked in along with the seat cushion so took me a couple of seconds to find.

A great chair for the price and better than some more expensive ones
Let me start by stating that I was, in no way, compensated for this review. I had been looking for a new computer chair for more than a year as the leather on my old one was cracked, I kept sliding down while sitting in it for any length of time, and found it a bit too big (though it wasn't huge) for the room where I had it. I would always have to lower the chair to get it under the desk when I was done using it. I looked all over and tried various mesh back chairs as I did not want leather again. The problem for me is that I am short (5'6") and not particularly heavy (about 138-140 pounds). Most of the chairs I tried I found the seat just that little bit too long and it would cut across the bottom part of my legs. Also, some were too wide. I was looking for a work chair, not a lounge chair; this is in my home for my own use and not meant to impress someone at a business meeting. Buying this chair sight unseen was an act of faith on my part. However, I knew if it didn't work out, and with Amazon's excellent customer service, I could send it back. As it turns out, it was exactly what I was looking for. As many others have mentioned, it was quite easy to assemble and I needed no help doing it. Everything aligned properly and I was using the chair within an hour of the box being delivered, putting it together, and disassembling and disposing of my old chair. I find the chair comfortable to sit on for extended lengths of time. Even at the height I want the chair, so that my feet remain flat on the floor, it slips conveniently under my desk without having to be lowered. The back support is good for me and I do not slide around. The wheels roll smoothly, even on my carpet, and the arm rests are just right for me. Some things you might want to keep in mind are if you have a large body frame then this might not be the best option. If you are quite tall then the stationary lumbar support back and arm rests may not work for your height. If you are looking for something with more padding then this chair probably is not for you. For me, though, it was just what I was looking for.

Failed after 1-2 years bearing 200-260 lbs
The chair seemed great when it arrived 2.4 years ago, but then it failed! On arrival, the chair required maybe 30-60 minutes of assembly--screwing lots of bolts to attach parts (e.g. the seat, left armrest, right armrest, back, height control lever). For the first year or so, the chair functioned as expected--a great chair at a great price! I was the only user of the chair at a weight ranging between 200-260 lbs, which--although in retrospect my height may have led to more leverage than most users--was well under the rated weight specification of 275 lbs. Unfortunately, after the first year, the cheap plywood seat bottom started bending/folding causing the seat back to lean too far away from the occupant so as not to offer support. What does this mean? If the seat occupant leaned back against the back, the center of mass would cause the chair to tip. Familiar with this concern, I used the chair without leaning against the back, but last week, my parent visited, sat in the chair, and despite my warning not to lean back, in some way tipped out of the chair. I have since removed the seat back and now just have an adjustable-height seat cushion on a rolling base to sit on, which is the rolling stool I am sitting on now while typing this review. Happily nothing happened when my parent fell, but what if your loved one fell and hit their head on a desk corner or the floor or broke a bone? Although the chair worked well for one year, it failed faster than any chair I have ever known when operated well under the rated weight. This makes me question the credibility of the claimed BIFMA certification, ostensibly for safety and durability. Maybe I should have replaced the chair sooner, but I also should not have had to. This chair's rapid failure is not normal and much below expectation. When I followed the product user manual PDF in contacting Amazon support "if you need help with your Amazon Basics product" to try to get a replacement seat part, three Amazon support agents claimed they could do nothing because it was out of warranty. They were polite but not helpful when I just wanted to know where to find a replacement seat part. And the Amazon customer support thread kept pausing due to time-outs, rather than the agents completing the task and following up reaching out to me. Ultimately, Amazon support management made the situation right, but I had to be persistent. Amazon could fix this problem in the future by making the chair seat more substantial (with thicker plywood, plastic, or fiberglass), by selling replacement parts, and by better training customer support on more options than just "replace and refund" within the warranty time window. So here is my rating: - Chair for the first year: 5 stars (fully functional, good price, including shipping) - Chair for the second year: 2 stars (no usable seat back to lean against) - Risk of chair to parents or friends: 1 star (risk to loved ones is more important than a low price) - Amazon support: 2 stars, 2 stars, 2 stars, and then 4 stars (polite but useless until finally helpful) Overall rating: 3 stars of 5 (charitably)

Don't let the price fool you, this is a great chair.
Bought this chair in 2018 and it has held up great. Comfortable and provides good support. Used this chair for working from home for about a year and a half during covid and it is still as good as the day it arrived.

Disappointing
(2 Years in) I had given this middling reviews. This was a fair chair, but the bottom has no cushioning and you could feel the wood through it. While this is a bit uncomfortable, I may have seen this decision as a means to respect durability in their product. This wound up not being the case. While uncomfortable, I had bought a pillow for my bottom, and my problems were mostly resolved. The rest of the chair however are showing signs of wear and tear. The two main things I've noticed are the sagging arms and the mesh back wearing down. I use both arms to get up from my desk, and now they're somehow uneven. I take a closer look thinking maybe it's an assembly error, but sure enough, one is bent. This hasn't collapsed completely, but it's only a matter of time if they just used cheap parts. As for the mesh back, it's frayed all across the back, meaning the cloth they used is unraveling. While not a huge issue there, the mesh is cut and torn here and there along the rim of the chair. I uncommonly lay back, so seeing them broken is unusual. I've become self conscious of this to the point where I'm actually hesitating to lean back in this chair more. I had bought this chair as a cheap replacement for this $90 one because I didn't want to spend so much for a chair, but given that chair I replaced it with lasted a solid 8 year before its collapse, I'm having second thoughts about me cheaping out. I've been using amazonbasics for a while thinking their products would hit a certain minimum level of quality, but they're just taking popular products, manufacturing at the cheapest level, and sticking their name hoping it suckers in buyers for their poorly built products. --------- For fairness sake, my old review (2 Months in): It's a good chair, rolls around smoothly and light enough to pick and move around. No little flaws appearing after a month so far, and not too terrible as a piece of office furniture... except my bottom. There's virtually no padding on the bottom and it feels like I'm sitting on the plywood(?) that the cushion covers. It's flat also, meaning there's no contours that other chairs have, hurting my butt even more. I eventually got a pillow for it, and the comfort is somewhat better... but it adds too much to the price. I can't say I'm happy with this purchase, but I have to live with it because it'd be too much of a pain to send back
