Works well- don't forget Press and Seal Wrap and a sock
We were extremely pleased with the DryPro Half Arm Cast Cover. We purchased this for my 7-yr old daughter, who was used to swimming 6 days a week for swim team and was distraught at the prospect of having to stay out of the pool for a month or more in the middle of summer. We followed the advice of a previous reviewer (thank you!!), and covered her cast with Glad Press and Seal wrap first, then a sock (to prevent the cast from snagging the cover, possibly creating a hole), and then the cast cover, and her cast did not get wet. It is important to use the press and seal wrap and the sock. We used a sock of my husband's and folded it a couple inches above the cast. There were a couple times there were a few drops of water on the very top of the sock, and I don't know if they came while she was swimming, or as we were taking the cover off, but the sock absorbed them above where her cast was, so no issues there. She avoided diving into the water for the most part, but did dive in twice with no problems. At one swim meet, she dove and then did the butterfly, and one of the two actions somehow broke the seal, because it did allow water in. However, we took the cover off after that race, pulled off the wet sock, and since the cast itself was covered with the press and seal wrap, it was completely dry. That was the only time the cover did not work well, but she was fine with other strokes and just playing in the pool. This cover (and the combination of the wrap/sock, I'm sure) did make her a little sweaty, which gave her a blister-like mark on two fingers that were not casted, but that did not bother her. Overall, she was thrilled to be able to enjoy the pool (several times a week over the 4 weeks her cast was on) and I was happy that our family's summer plans were not altered too much by the presence of her cast. I would highly recommend this product.

Completely Ineffective, even when using customer tips
Does not work. I tested it twice. The first time was in the kiddie pool and I used the customer tips to first wrap the cast in Seran Wrap press-n-seal and tape it with waterproof first aid tape, I then put the sleeve on, suctioned the air out and taped the top of that to the arm so no air could escape and no water could get in. I watched it while he was in the pool to ensure it stayed sucked in, which it did, but when I took it off of him it somehow had water inside of it and his cast was wet on the outside on his hand and on the inside from both ends. I used a blow dryer on cool and dried the inside as best and as far down as I could. I decided that maybe it wasn't good enough for swimming but at least it may help in the bath. I didn't press n seal wrap it that time since it didn't help anyway and he wasn't going to be submersing it, this was just a quick soap up and get out bath with me bathing him (he just turned 6). Before I sucked the air out of it I taped the top shut well, I thought it may help to really get all the air out. As I was pumping the air out I could hear the sound of air leaking like when a beach ball has a hole. I sucked it all out and got him in the bath and had him rest his arm on the top of the bathtub. Within a min or two the thing wasn't sucked in at all but I figured at least its covering his arm and the top was really the only part where water could potentially get in while I rinsed him off and I was very careful to keep water away from it as best I could, plus it was taped... well, it still somehow managed to get wet inside. This time less than in the swimming pool and he didn't require blow drying but before I bought this I just tied a plastic bag around it and that was equally effective. The worst part is I paid more for this than I could afford and now Amazon is telling me it isn't eligible for return.

It worked!
We found ourselves with a broken elbow, surgery to place pins and a big cast on a 4 year old one week before we took her on her first beach vacation. This product saved the trip and she had a blast. Now, because the pins absolutely could not get wet, or risk infection, we took extra precautions and it worked beautifully. First, our doctors office measured her and told us what size to order - it seemed way too long, so i tried two other sizes and it turns out they were right the first time. By the way, you cannot return these! We wrapped her cast in Glad Press and Seal, making sure to cover the top of her cast well, then we put the DryPro over the top. We then put waterproof tape around her arm to ensure the DryPro stayed sealed. Next, because it was so long, i pulled up the end to where her fingers and thumb were near the end, folding the product over itself and trying to create a little pocket for the valve to sit inside. Then we pumped out all the air. She often got upset at this point saying it hurt, but she did okay. I usually put another section of waterproof tape over the valve and then made her wear a sling while she was playing to limit her arm movement. It was a process, but it worked and was well worth it.
