Great monitor
Great monitor. Ideal for work. Easy on the eyes.Built in speakers are indeed very bad, but I'm not using them.

Not what I expected from a 'New' monitor
I ordered the ViewSonic VG2438Sm Monitor from Amazon and the Amazon page and subsequent email confirmed that this was a new monitor. From the very beginning this purchase was doomed, the monitor having been wrongly delivered to a London address, before getting to me in Wales. Despite this detour it did arrive ahead of the promised date, but when it arrived it looked anything but new.The box had been resealed with copious quantities of tape and the carrying handle had been ripped off. When I opened the box, it didn’t get any better, the protective polystyrene packaging was damaged, the DisplayPort cable was missing (there was an empty poly bag in the box) and there had clearly been a strip of adhesive tape stuck to the back of the stand at some point. When I hooked up the monitor the experience continued downhill. I use an Eizo monitor (full Adobe RGB) for photo editing and the ViewSonic was just intended to be an extension to the desktop where I could put some of the Photoshop tools. Nevertheless, I would want the second screen calibrated so that it didn’t look too bizarre alongside the Eizo: the ViewSonic monitor was sRGB and couldn’t reasonably be expected to perform as well as my editing monitor.I really struggled to calibrate this monitor and then I realised that I had assumed that the monitor would have arrived with factory settings out of the box. However, this was clearly not the first time this monitor had been hooked up to a PC. Once I’d reset the monitor I was eventually able to achieve a workable calibration, albeit nowhere near the specified 98% sRGB. Even after calibrating with a ColorMunki, set to the same brightness as the Eizo and compatible with a reduced-light editing environment, I had to reset the ViewSonic monitor, decreasing its brightness by a further 50%, to achieve a comparable brightness to the Eizo. Even so there was a marked shading towards the corners of this screen.Despite all of the above I decided that the monitor, whilst far from perfect and apparently not new, was usable and that it would serve my purpose: frankly I’d had enough hassle already and couldn’t face any more. Then it went even further downhill and within 48 hours the monitor would not turn on at all. Nothing I could do would persuade the monitor into life. Needless to say, I returned the monitor for a full refund which was dealt with promptly and politely as were all my earlier emails (hence the 2 stars). I won’t be buying anything more from MoreFrom Group.

Picture quality excellent, fairly robust design, but let down by power supply and poor ergonomic design
Update...Unfortunately the replacement monitor switch-mode PSU is very noisy at standby, crackling and whistling away merrily.I can't trust the monitor to be left on standby or in operation with the power supply as it is.The monitor is going back for a refund and I shall be looking at a different manufacturer, which is a shame as the monitor is good in all other respects but I have to question the long term reliability.
