I'm a bit confused, the package says that it has 2oz of Sodium Alginate, but it says it only weighs 1.6 oz in the shipping details, how is this.

Nowhere on the package there's usage suggestions. how much to use? say, to thicken a 24 oz. smoothie?

hello- Try 1/4 teaspoon and adjust to desired consistency. Make sure you put it in the mixer prior to blending otherwise it will be very difficult to mix it in.
