This is the only low-carb cookbook I own and I find it extremely comprehensive. There are no pictures in the cookbook, which I would normally find to be a drawback, but it didn't hinder or hamper my perusal of the book and subsequent cooking in the least. The descriptions are succinct and descriptive, the directions are clear and the ingredients are common, plus the discussion of low-carb ingredients at the start of the book is quite helpful for newbies. The cookbook has a variety of recipes with different carb counts, which works well since low-carbers often have different daily carb count goals. A huge bonus of this book is that I had a question about a recipe and I emailed the author and she wrote me right back! (I didn't want to use soy powder in a recipe, so she gave me an alternative.) As far as the book design itself goes, since it's so thick, the cookbook stays open without the need to put anything on it or use a holder. Anyone who uses cookbooks regularly knows how big of a deal this is, and I usually look for spiral bound cookbooks, but this one works just fine as a paperback. The only revision I'd make to this book is adding information on the fat in each recipe (each recipe has a listing of protein, fiber, carb and usable carb info). I'm trying to balance my fat and protein intake, and that would be super helpful so I don't have to make the calculations by hand. I think I understand why the author didn't include that info-Americans are all together too fat-phobic. In summary, this is probably the only cookbook I'm going to need for a long time-what a fantastic investment! Review: AWESOME, AWESOME, AWESOME, With the ability to Search it on kindle you can't go wrong - AWESOME, AWESOME, AWESOME, With the ability to Search it on kindle you can't go wrong, extremely good low-carb recipe book, better info than most low-carb / Paleo style books I see, the recipes and the author, both get an A+. I stopped using Ketosis sticks that are less reliable and got a glucometer, and have been using it to my advantage, the recipes in the book are awesome and with my glucometer checks, they have keep my glucose levels way down... I myself still use a lot of artificial sweeteners in my recipes and I drink diet soda as well, an interesting fact I found out in this book, Splenda and other artificial sweeteners are NOT carb free, nutritional labels are allowed a .49 or less tolerance, and if you see the <1 its b/c they are allowed a .99 tolerance so if you consume artificial sweeteners make sure to calculate correctly as 1 cup of Splenda is definitely not 0 carbs the actual amount is listed in the book (sorry I am not a spoiler, you will have to buy the book and read it to know the facts). I DO NOT consume potatoes, carrots, corn, onions (in excess), or tomatoes (in excess) as the author points out that some vegetables raise your blood sugar and it varies from individual to individual, just like some alcohol sugars do... She helped me realize that I needed to make my diet more tailored to myself and be a better hall monitor for myself and sugar levels as well. Great book worth the money and the read, I also love the fact that she tried to help put recipes in there for the gluten free folks aw well. Great Job Diana... Recipes for the uninformed starting on a low carb diet
Actually I'd like to give this book 4.5 stars but that's not allowed in this review. We got this book on a recommendation from others on Amazon. I'm a fairly "plain joe" type of guy when it comes to food, but my wife needs a bit more zest in her food. It has some great recipes and since I'm doing all the cooking and I haven't cooked much other than plain baked chicken, scrambled eggs and bacon, or a straight roast with only salt and pepper, this book allows me to "spice up" the meats and other things so that our new way of eating isn't so "ho hum". It unfortunately does need a small bit of updating as food science progresses. Never-the-less it is a great help and the small negativity depends on what you think of some of the newer sweeteners that have had more research behind them since this book was written. One or two of the products suggested, we've been unable to locate, but I just "experiment" with other things. Over all this book is very good and I would recommend it to others working at the low carb style diets.

After starting a low carb diet (after reading Bernsteins Diabetes Solution book) we bought this book to help us create a few new and interesting recipes. We've already tried a few of the recipes here - and found them easy to follow and tasty to eat. The low carb bread recipes were particularly inspiring. The book is well organised making recipes easy to find. The only problem for us in the UK is translating or finding some of the American ingredients - but with so many online low-carb shops, it's not so very difficult!

It has no pictures and it is printed on cheap paper, but the recipes are amazing! Everything I have made from it tastes great and is low carb. Not to mention simple to put together. Spagetthi squash carbonara, a delicious shrimp and coconut casserole, slow cooker chicken thighs in coconut milk - if I had the book in front of me I would list even more. Recipes are easy, tasty, varied and low carb. If you have only one low carb cookbook on your shelf, make it this one!
