It's actually a great idea, just a little hard to get it molded just right. But fortunately you can just boil again to get that perfect fit. My 8yo son uses it for hockey and loves everything about it. I recommend wearing it around the house for a few days prior to using it for a game. It's kinda hard for the youngsters to get the hang of molding it to there mouths it might take a few tries. The only con is that the black guard turned kinda chalky white color after we heated it.

As a hockey coach and hockey mom I’ve seen my fair share of mouthguards and what sometimes people do to them. I would say that this is one of the best mouthguards the kids don’t chew on them like the normal thicker ones you can understand them better on the ice and they say that it’s more comfortable because it’s not so bulky in their mouth and the best part is they don’t have to take it out to take a drink. We really like these my son doesn’t wanna use anything other than these he finds that it’s really helpful for him and I think the quality of them is just absolutely great.

I use as a night guard to avoid grinding teeth. My grandson uses in flag football. Good for a QB as it allows talking and stays in. I would not trust to fully protect teeth. Comes down to what works; a guard that people will use and keep in their mouth vs a guard that is bulky and users keep taking out and dropping in dirt. I rate 100% for the uses as I describe. Excellent night guard in that you can re-form and wear without bother; stays in and allows easy breathing/drinking/talking. Both sizes work. As an adult I can use either.
