Q: Difference between new and old model?

The burner material in the old model is similar to cotton wool. The newer model is more fabric like and easier to light

Q: Can you use the cover over the whole unit to keep hands warm?

The temperature of the hand warmer varies throughout the day (12 hours plus) At times it is so hot you need the black fabric cover on because it is too hot to hold, at other times you can take the cover off and the heat is fine to touch. I love my Zippo, one for each pocket.

Q: Does clipper or swan lighter fluid work just as well as the zippo lighter fluid in these hadlnd warmers?

Yes!! I use the cheapest from the Pound Shop

Q: Why does the back of the box advertise 17.5 hours when it lasts for 12 hours?

I’ve not read that but It might mean it can last up to that time but can only be advertised as 12 hours, I used mine last week and it lasted well over 12 hours
