My son has developmental delay and doesn’t know how to ride a bike, he is 9 and weight 53lbs, would this product hold him?

The product details on https://www.tyketoter.com state: "Recommended for children ages 2-5" and regarding weight: "No weight limit - if the child fits, they will not weigh too much"--but again specific to ages 2-5. We bought this for our son when he was 2, now he's 4. But my bf placed his 7y/o nephew on it to stroll, he fit just fine but bc the child was bigger/taller it was a bit harder to steer the bike when turning. So it may hold a 9y/o fine but may be harder for parent to steer.

My son is 100cm high and is getting too big for the wee ride. Would his hight be a problem on the tyke toter?

Hello Angela - he will fit, my son is 104cm and it works fine, but one thing to keep in mind - I'm 184cm tall and have a large bike, so plenty of room for him and me - you will probably need to ride with your knees pointing out a little, and you would want upright bars for your arm length. That said the Toter is brilliant, I really like it and so does my son, the best things about it is 1 when he asks a question or we want to talk about something, we are both looking in the same direction/can hear each other. He learns to watch the road and can rise slight for bumps (it does absorb bumps well though). Lastly the weight distribution means his weight is over the centre of the bike, making riding far more stable, once they are 10kg+ sitting at the back does bad things to a bikes COG for maneuvering.

Does the bike seat have to be in an elevated position to fit this underneath it? My bike seat is at the lowest setting for me feet to touch ground.

That's the ideal set up but it was uncomfotablre for a petite like me. I have a 20" bike and I mount the tyke toter in the lowest possible, touching the bike's body so I can have the seat to its lowest position with my feet at least slightly on the ground. It also gives me the comfort that my child's more steady in front of me than in that elevated position.

Will this work with a recumbent road bike?

Hey Wendy,I would look at the picture of bike frame on Tyke Toter. It needs a seat vertical bar for child seat and a diag bar for foot rest. I would guess not without more recumbent bike info.If you send me a picture of your type of recumbent bike, I will give you better opinion.I have enjoyed hauling my grandson around, otherwise, on my Townie. I had a similar though more primitive design 23 years ago for my daughters and liked it then as well.With you,B
