Yes, I was a gymnast. We used this exact tape. Not necessarily for grip but it's good to use around the wrist to prevent skin tearing from using actual highbar/ring grips. Also, we used this tape to make rip grips. Once the skin tears on the palm it can be painful but if you use this tape to form a rip grip it will minimize the pain.
