"Lotion" in J-care is a toner! but more moisturizing than toners you're probably used to
On it being so "watery" - Japanese skin care products terminology uses "lotion" for TONER. So it is NOT lotion the way American's use the term, people disappointed by its liquid form misunderstand what the product is supposed to be. This is the first step after cleaning, followed (depending on your approach) by serum and moisturizer (emulsion or cream). I started using this brand after seeing some at Costco, slowly adding step by step as I used up my prior products. It didn't take long before I just gave the rest of what I was using away. I primarily use this brand, combined with a Korean moisturizer/cream for occasional rotation. This was my first use of this brand's toner ("lotion"), and am really liking it. It's more moisturizing than your usual toner. I also added the "gel" moisturizer (which is really a light creamy texture), given the big Prime Day savings I wanted to try it out. I was pretty happy with my prior products but really, really love these. Just be sure to read the guidelines for Japanese skin care routines :) to understand where the products fall in the sequence. It really does matter if you follow the general progression as that's the whole point, layering of light-to-heavier moisture layers. I'm not always a routine gal, and can be impatient with morning steps. But I don't skip it anymore as once I started using this product, it's different enough that I really notice when I skip it!

My skin says "thank you!"
I first encountered this product at a hotel in Japan. It looked like water, but OMgosh, it is not! It's just what my dry skin needs, and has none of the gooey, creamy residue that American products contain and that are not needed! Just a tiny amount of this is all I need, so it lasts a long time and justifies its price, though I do wish the price was lower so more Americans could learn what quality lotion is really like. My third order arrived in a paper mailer without any padding. Lotion had leaked out and soaked through the mfr packaging and mailer, apparently from the lack of padding and rough handling. The pump dispenser guard-thing had come off. I was going to return it, but close inspection show bottle and pump intact and not much lotion lost. Perhaps this is why it was marked down a bit upon purchase. Such a nice-feeling lotion.
