Fodor's Puerto Rico (Full-color Travel Guide) Review: Great addition to your carry on! - I purchase a Fodor's Guide for all of my travels because they give great tips and hints on things to do, places to see, maps, as well as safety tips - very useful if you are traveling to a place for the first time. I don't pull it out while traveling because I don't want to look like a tourist but I do keep it in my purse/carry on to re-read on the plane or in the hotel room. I recommend this one as well as all of the others. Review: Very good guide for major hot spots as well as traveling must knowledge - I used this in conjunction with tripadvisor, if you are planning to go to PR this is a great book of knowledge. I however used the tips and never really looked into it past that. USE AT&T! Just as a big plus if you can use an at&t phone with a good data plan you can use the GPS function on about 95% of the island with little issue. Google maps and apple maps each work very well. I zipped around in my rental without the "needed" gps. Our next trip will be more along the lines of the book. PR 2017 cant come soon enough.

isn't it about time guidebooks like this included advice about Air BnB
Since this is pre-Hurricane Maria, it is woefully out of date. Also, isn't it about time guidebooks like this included advice about Air BnB? On the plus side, this was a decent guide book pre-Maria, but will be of much less help now.

Great guide
We went to PR last year, and decided to go back this year. I ordered this guide and found it to be up-to-date and fairly comprehensive. It gives a good overview (tough for print media) of the sites we visited last year, and good info for the places we plan to visit this year. Of course, nothing beats your own research for current info, but this guide does an excellent job without getting mired in a lot of info that's not helpful. If you're looking for assistance with your initial trip research, this is a good place to start.

Our go-to book
We just got back from a week in Puerto Rico and this book was invaluable. We took two books, this one and Moon's guide to San Juan and Puerto Rico's East Coast. I liked the Moon book because it was quite compact, but we found that the Fodor's guide ended up being our go-to book. It helped us find some fun surprises, including our favorite Old San Juan dinner experience (St. Germain Bistro & Cafe) and the fun seafood shacks in Pinones. The index in the back helped us go right to the page we needed and not waste time searching. We're already planning our next trip to Puerto Rico and this book will be the one to help us. We were very happy with it.

Great guide!
Great travel guide! I have the Maui version of this book as well and both are very handy to have while traveling! I recommend this book for anyone that wants a run down of all the things to do while on vacation!

If you have Verizon do NOT rely on the info in this guide!
While the travel guide is somewhat helpful, it has a major error. It states that all major continental U.S. cell services are available in Puerto Rico. I don't know about most folks, but I consider Verizon to be a "major" cell service provider. It is NOT available in Puerto Rico, absent a prearranged, expensive "roaming" fee. Should I have checked with Verizon directly? Probably. BUT in the past Fodor's has been a good source of info. Not this time. Also, although the guide notes one needs to take a "público" to get from Old San Juan to Ponce, it doesn't say how to do this. First one must take an express bus from the Old San Juan to Sagrado Corazón (O.K., you don't have to take the express, but I am assuming you want to accomplish this journey in your lifetime.) From Sagrado Corazón, take the train or another express bus to Rio Piedras. From THERE you get on a "público" and wait for it to fill up or convince fellow passengers to chip in to buy the empty seats so it will go. LOVE Puerto Rico...BUT Greyhound or Trailways are missing a major expansion opportunity. I do not recall before ever being anywhere in the developed or developing world without regularly scheduled intercity transport. Either rent a car or hire a driver, the latter being the better option in my opinion!

An excellent and functional overview
An excellent and functional overview. Very useful for our 2 week trip to P.R. I do want to say that the relative youth of the authors is apparent in some ratings. Trendier restaurants and clubs were often rated based as much on the scene as on the actual quality of the food. These are important factors for many travelers, and kitchens vary from night to night. That said, many dining recommendations were timely and right on. DO NOT MISS Salt Gastropub in Isla Verde!!! The most consistently perfect and astonishing meal that I have had in several years.

Consigliato.
