I love this thing
This controller is so fun. It has so many parameters that you can mess with and they all make a difference. My motor got warm very soon when I first plugged it in but after entering the correct motor winding resistance and amperage and all that stuff it runs ice cold and sounds so smooth. It will operate on 240 volts single phase input. The wiring diagram shows only three phase in and three phase out but I found I is made to operate on single phase in just like the description says. Very happy so far with this one.

COLCHESTER LATHE 3PH TO 1PH
I am in the UK and needed to convert my 1974 Colchester Student lathe from 3ph (2.2kw) to run off 240v 1ph. I chose the 5hp (4kw) version Mollom VFD as the lower power ones were not available at the time. I have wired it so the lathe control stop/start/reverse go through the inverter to control it as original lathe set up. I emailed the seller and they sent me the parameters. I did have questions and the tech support (which I assume is in China) was answered with expert knowledge within 12 hours so next morning a reply was waiting. I am a professional user and wanted to use the lathe for a couple of months and can report no problems what so ever. If your converting your 3ph spindle machine then I highly recommend Mollom for the VFD. Due to the higher KW rating I assume I was able to set the acceleration and deceleration times to 3 sec and 2 sec respectively without any over load problems. A lower kw VFD may well have needed a braking resistor wired in. As a cautionary note, not all 3ph motors can be converted to 1ph VFD so do your homework first.

Works very good and a great price
I'm only using this as a single to three phase converter, not using any of the speed control features. I originally bought a DPS converter but turns out they don't work for a lot of motors since they don't give full voltage on all three wires. The Mollom does and works great for my application. The downside is it's not plug and play. Tech support is great, I just emailed them my motor specs and they sent me the settings and it works great. The manual is lacking and so you pretty much have to email tech support, but I'm really happy with it.

Very flexible
I do enjoy the flexibility of the VFD. In my installation I have a mini lathe the DC motor failed so I purchased a 3 phase motor at 1/2 HP. I only have single phase in my shop. I do have a rotary phase converter but I wanted to try this instead. The lathe runs great. No torque issues at any speed. One thing I should note it the unit I purchased is the 5.5K VFD it's all ways better to buy a unit much larger than you need. The programming of the VFD was overwhelming at first then I realized I just needed to learn the basic steps to program and the rest is in the manual. For instance it came preset at 50Hz and I needed 60Hz. After going through everything that said 50Hz I found the setting that allowed me to change it. I believe I will buy another unit for other tools in my shop it's much quieter than a rotary phase converter.
