Impressed with a great product!
We took advantage of the quarantine to overhaul our previously gravel and weed filled side yard. I put quite a bit of work into prepping the space prior to laying grass. Because of all the gravel I put in new edging and 4” of new soil. I had no desire to dig out the existing dirt and rock and I was fine with the area of my yard being higher since it did not connect to the existing grass in my yard. Once the soil was down I wet the dirt and laid the growtex paper down, wetting each section as I went and overlapping by an inch or so. It went down easily and wetting “glued” it down pretty well. One issue I ran into was the softness of my soil created a lot of lumpiness as I walked on it to lay down the grass paper. I’m not sure if this would be avoidable or not. It was very apparent when first down, but as the grass grew it has become less so. I may add more topsoil and roll in the fall if it still bothers me. I was worried about the paper getting blown around by the wind but never had an issue with this. I watered by hose three times a day for the first 4 weeks, and then went down to once a day with a sprinkler. I did not cut until it had grown for 6 weeks, and have only cut it once so far. I can still see quite a bit of paper through the grass, but it is slowly disintegrating. Overall very pleased with how well this worked and how easy it was. I know there are comments about the expense and how buying a bag of grass seed would be much less expensive. To me the simplicity of this product and how well it has grown were worth it.

Doesn’t work as described
I was excited to get this product. It says roll it out, water it and watch it grow. There’s more to it than that obviously. I had to prepare the site. Removing all the old thatch, dead grass, leaves, and digging down 2 inches to loosen the soil. I did all of the above. I had rolled out the mats to decide how to lay them out around a tree and a curved flower bed. I cut out the design as best I could, and used the scraps to patch in some of the larger openings. I noticed that the mats had two different sides. A dark side and a light side. I wasn’t sure which side to lay on the ground so I tried contacting the company and I have received no reply. I thought this would be important since it said, in the video that the mat would stick to the ground once it was watered. so I wasn’t sure if there was a sticky side or not sticky side. Since there was no answer, I tried placing the lighter side down. I watered it, and it quickly became a very sticky mush and adhered to the ground. When the site was prepared, I lay down the mats and watered as instructed. I also watered it three times a day because of our Texas heat. And that was as instructed. It’s been two weeks and I have seen absolutely no growth, no sprouts, nothing. I was hoping I’d see at least a couple of sprouts by this time. A close-up shows that the seed coats are popped open from hydration but nothing coming out of them. I wonder if it had viable seeds at all. Since there are no phone numbers or replies to text messages, there is no way for me to know if I still need to wait longer to see any growth. But it seems that two weeks is long enough to see something happening. One photo shows that there are some holes but those were created by small critters who like to dig things up. After taking the photo, I went back and patched the holes up. That’s when I examined the mat and noticed that there was absolutely no growth happening. No roots no sprouts, no nothing.

WORKS!!! EVEN IN SHADY AREAS!!!
I was SO happy this grew grass even in my shaded area. It took 10 days to sprout with watering 3 times per day. It continues to grow in thicker over the weeks and I'm SO thankful. I really didn't think anything would grow in that shade. I rolled it in the fall when temps were around 40-50 degrees at night and around 60-80 during the day. Perfect!!! HIGHLY RECOMMEND. I'm on my 3rd roll!!!! Oh, and I wet and raked the soil underneath first before rolling. Make sure the soil is fluffed up and wet before you place it! : )

Success story
Sooooo, this has been quite a process. I first decided to kill my weeded yard naturally and without any chemicals by placing heavy black plastic over it for 3 months during the summer utilizing the heat to kill as many weeds as possible. When I removed the plastic I scrapped all the remaining weeds and dug up any residual roots or larger weeds that didn’t die under the intense heat. I then loosened the top. I did not place topsoil as some recommend since I raked and prepared to what I felt was sufficient. Finally I was ready to lay the seed mat. I laid the mat 2 strips at a time and gently watered to set it in place. I had no problems with it blowing or moving. Germination was 5days. I watered 3 times a day for the first few weeks and then backed off to 2 times making sure it never dried out. After six weeks I went to 2 times a week but a longer more soaking water to encourage root development. Overall I am very pleased. As you can see there are some patchy areas and 2 specific areas where the mat overlapped seems to have struggled. The last few pictures are after 2 lawn cuttings which is 8 weeks from initial placing. I found this to be simple, efficient and a great value. Considering it’s seed, fertilizer and mat all in one there was no worry about birds eating the seed or seed washing away after a good rain, which I did encounter. I do still see the mat but over time it will disintegrate.

Okay for small areas
I was expecting this to grow a little more grass. It would not stay down to the ground. I would suggest before wetting this. Sprinkle a thin layer of soil on top so that it stay on the ground. When it dries it hardens up it does not like the heat much it will do better in slightly sunny/shade areas. Does not require a ton of water the termination takes about 2 to 3 days to see growth. However the blades of grass are pretty thin. The grass itself does look decent. If you are doing a huge area. I would suggest tilling up the area and planting seed instead.
