A man and his young daughter face almost impossible odds as they struggle to help an injured horse return to the racetrack in this family-friendly drama. Ben Crane (Kurt Russell) is a horse trainer whose career has gone into a bit of a slump, and after years as his own boss, he's signed on to work for Palmer (David Morse), a breeder whose wealth and success has given him a certain degree of arrogance. While Ben has learned to keep his mouth shut around his boss, he forgets himself when one of his favorite horses, Sonador, breaks it's leg during an important race. Palmer insists that the horse should be put down on the spot, but Ben doesn't have the heart to kill the animal, especially since his young daughter, Cale (Dakota Fanning), is in the stands watching. Ben and Palmer have harsh words with one another, and Ben is fired, but is allowed to take Sonador with him when he leaves. Ben has a hard time convincing anyone that the injured horse has any potential, especially his father, Pop (Kris Kristofferson), a fellow trainer who rarely sees eye to eye with his son. But Cale loves the horse, and Ben believes that Sonador can make a comeback with the right care, and together with stable men Balon (Luis Guzman) and Manolin (Freddy Rodriguez), he sets out to put the filly on the road to recovery. As it's subtitle suggests, Dreamer: Inspired by a True Story was based on the story of Mariah's Storm, a filly who broke a leg during a race in 1993, but a year later came back to win the Arlington Heights Oaks, and in 1995 won the Turfway Breeder's Cup. Review: Very good movie - Very good movie Review: For all those horse lovers‼️ - Great family movie. A gift for someone who loves horses. Love the cast and the heartfelt story.

What a Great Family Movie
It's hard not to get excited about a movie that shows horse racing but this movie has so much more than just the horse racing. I'm always on the lookout for good family movies that I can watch with my granddaughter and great nieces and nephews...movies that display the values I feel are important in my family's lives and show, in action and words, a way of life the children in my life to pattern their lives. This movie fits the bill! I watched the movie with a 13, 10, 5, 64 and 65 year old...and it was enjoyed by all. The kids were entranced with the horse and racing, of course, but also loved the way the Dad and little girl's relationship improved. They loved watching the little girl take the lead in working hard to make a dream come true and understood how this helped heal the relationship between the father and grandfather as well. It taught us "older" children to remember our dreams and still fight for them and to remember to instill dreams in our children and help them grow into working for those dreams and following them. As in life, there are some harsh scenes that made the young ones cry and ask, "is she going to die"...scary, sad scenes about scary, sad things that happen, so parents and grandparents, be prepared to help. I would definitely buy this product again and recommend it for others. The casting was great. Dakota Fanning had good "attitude" and Kurt Russell and father, Kris Kristofferson looked and acted like they were father/son in real life. The fact that this story was inspired by a true story makes it even better. Definitely a movie for my library!

Absolutely heartwarming and inspirational way to invest 106 minutes of your life
Although the story is fictional, Dreamer is loosely based upon but completely inspired by the injury, recovery, and racing career of a real horse, Mariah's Storm. Although the real horse did not fare as well as the fictional Sonador, the movie is a heartwarmer. Well cast by actors who know how to follow direction to strengthen and support each other, not steal scenes, each role feels quietly familiar. We all deal with childlike dreams, adult doubts, unfair challenges, and blindsided setbacks. Each challenge finds a home in Dreamer, but the truly inspirational part of the movie is an emotionally absent parent, his choice to change, the unconditional love of his young daughter, and the scripted focus of an inspired filly. Sure it is a movie and pure fantasy, but it is a good one. Don't be surprised if you find yourself laughing, crying, smiling, and cheering in the privacy of your own home. I know I did. The DVD transfer is exceptional with crisp colors and sharp closeups, nearing Blu-ray perfection. The Dolby 5.1 sound is outstanding. Dreamer is a great way to invest both a few dollars and a couple hours of your life, especially with family you love.

Great Little Family Movie!
I saw this moving while waiting in the orthodontist office. Loved the story. Loved the acting. Fanning is precious and Shu and Russell give heart warming real life reactions. Of course, you have to like the family life story genre...along with horses, of course! This is a 'feel good' movie for the whole family. I have viewed it twice and put it in my permanent 'good movie' stack. The Kentucky horse farm scenes are beautiful and the race track scenes take you right there! You root for the good guys and 'boo hiss' at the bad guys. Great little movie!

I give the movie 5 stars (wonderful movie!) but the DVD case it came in is garbage. I literally just put it in the garbage. Thankfully I had some extra cases to use. I just got 3 dvd movies in one envelope and they were all bent!!! I was so worried the discs were going to be damaged, but I put them in and they played. So let's hope the whole thing plays properly! The cases are extremely poor quality, even the middle panels where the disc sits has big holes. Who would ever possibly make a case that doesn't protect 100%??? Super dumb. I only took stars off because of the disc cases. The movie is excellent!
