I have a perma-foster cat that is FIV+ and has ZERO teeth. He eats only wet food since it is easy on his gums. That's why we were happy with trying out ORIJEN Chunks & Shreds Original Entrée. Because of his health issues, we prefer to feed him high quality foods. We did find that there were more chunks than shreds. Not an issue for us. We love that it is 95% animal ingredients and the first ingredients and both chicken and salmon. He can't properly groom, so good quality food helps to keep his coat in check. We noticed right away that he was looking shiny and HEALTHY! We had no issues with mouth sores (another FIV complication), which tells us that the ingredients are great for him. He even jumped today! We were so surprised! He has never done that. We have no idea if the food is the reason for that, but it does tell me that he IS happy, and for that, we will continue to spoil him with the Orijen! This is been an amazing choice for my cats. I have been able to provide them with premium quality ingredients to help them obtain more protein and everything in this item for their overall health. It is very easy to take out of the can the cats seem to have no problem eating this food and one of the things that I like a lot is that it doesn't have a bad smell and that is a big deal to me it may not be to the cats but it is to me however with the ingredients and price compared to other cat foods it may be a little bit more but I would definitely purchase it again to keep my cats healthy this has been a great product.

I would give the product 5 stars except that every can inside of the small package was dented. The carton containing the cans was not damaged, nor was the Amazon box, which leads me to believe the cans may have been dented in the manufacturing plant. (I'm just sayin) I paid a lot of money for this food. I purchased the wet and the dry for my 16 year old cat who is pretty much turning her nose up at everything nowadays. She deserves a healthy diet and you really have to read labels. I'm incorporating this food slowly until she can adjust to the switch because it is high protein and contains no "meal" or synthetic fillers, thank goodness. Hopefully, it will agree with her. She devoured it first on the trial run next to other food. The wet food smelled like real protein instead of the nasty cat food smell. I'm disappointed in the pet food industry because most of them load our pet food with fillers, ground up feathers, hooves and beaks, which are all allergens. I'm willing to pay more for quality ingredients so I hope this fits the bill. You really have to read and do some homework regarding ingredients.

Cats really didn’t like the chunks- they’d lick out the gravy and fling the beef bits everywhere. They usually eat anything. Love the pate version though.

My cat hounds me every morning, following me from room to room until I feed this food to them. Switched a few weeks ago from a different brand that I had used for a while and there’s no way I’ll be able to fool them with that food now. One can seems to satisfy for the day, despite it being a smaller can than usual. It is pricier than what I used to buy but considering the food is eaten quick and doesn’t stay out, and my car is happier I am glad. No issues with it either - seems just as energetic and healthy as usual if not more so. Quality of the product and packaging also seems good. Overall I am satisfied.

New ingredients have turned this once-premium food into something cheap and disappointing. You’re paying extra for a well-known brand, expecting top quality, but instead, you’re getting guar gum in your cat’s food. I compared the old and new formulas—here are the results: Comparison of Old vs. New broken orijen cat Food Formula Key Differences: 1. Addition of Guar Gum (New Formula) – A Cheap Filler • The new formula now contains guar gum, a thickening agent that has no nutritional value for cats. • Guar gum is often used to increase moisture and texture, but it can cause digestive issues like soft stools or diarrhea, especially in sensitive cats. • The old formula did not contain guar gum, making it a cleaner, more species-appropriate recipe for carnivores. 2. Loss of Organ Meats (New Formula is Inferior) • The old formula contained chicken heart, which is a natural source of taurine—an essential amino acid for cats. • The new formula removed chicken heart, which means less natural taurine and potentially more synthetic supplementation. 3. Fish Bone Broth Instead of Chicken Heart • The new formula added fish bone broth, which might sound beneficial but can introduce higher levels of heavy metals (like mercury) and increase phosphorus, which is not ideal for cats with kidney concerns. 4. More Additives, Less Meat Focus • The new formula relies more on additives and fillers, while the old formula focused more on high-quality, species-appropriate ingredients. • A true premium cat food should prioritize whole animal ingredients, organ meats, and minimal fillers. Final Verdict: The New Formula is a Downgrade The new recipe is cheaper to produce but lower in quality, adding unnecessary fillers (guar gum), removing nutrient-rich ingredients (chicken heart), and relying on more processed additives. If you’re looking for a truly premium, high-protein food, Tiki Cat or Ziwi would be better alternatives. Disappointed to see a once great brand take this direction. It’s better to choose Tiki Cat or Ziwi over Orijen now. Extremely disappointed with what they’ve done.

My cats didn’t like this food at all. It was impossible to get them to eat it. I tried many times and they just left all the food on the plate. It’s pretty unusual for both of my cats to dislike the same food, but neither of them would eat this one — even though their daily food since 2020 has been Orijen Original Cat, and their treats are Orijen Original and Six Fish.

Great cat food - too bad that only 1 of my 3 kitties likes it. No fault of the food - just picky eaters
