I’ve owned weather radios before, and while they're fantastic for giving advance notice of weather events, my past experience was frustrating. My older units would broadcast every single weather warning for a huge geographical area. This resulted in a tremendous amount of alerts—for thunderstorms, floods, and snow—most of which were far away and irrelevant to me. The deluge of notifications caused classic "warning fatigue", and like many others, I ended up ignoring the radio completely, eventually turning it off. However, after watching the news coverage of the Texas floods, I realized just how vital these warnings are, especially for major, life-threatening events. That’s when I ran across this specific weather radio featuring S.A.M.E. (Specific Area Message Encoding) technology on Amazon, and after doing my homework, I knew this was the solution I needed. What I truly love about this radio is its ability to provide localized warnings and, most importantly, allow me to filter events. As soon as it arrived, I set it up with my closest broadcast station and immediately filtered out everything except the major, critical events like tornadoes and localized flooding. The ability to customize exactly what you want to be warned about is a huge feature. Since setting it up, the experience has been night and day. In three months, I've only received two alerts, both related to localized flooding. This proves the system works exactly as intended! The alerts themselves are robust: the alarm function is incredibly loud—loud enough to wake me up—and even if I'm not home, a large, blinking red light lets me know immediately that an important warning was issued. This is a quality radio that is easy to set up. Yes, you need to dedicate a few minutes to reading the instructions to properly activate S.A.M.E. and set your event filters, but that small investment of time is completely worth the peace of mind. If you're tired of false alarms, this radio is a must-have upgrade for serious weather preparedness.

I knew by the brand name this would be a quality weather radio but I am over the moon about it. Easy to use with no assembly to speak of... This thing can be silent or wake up the heavy sleeper. It's a quality build and functions beautifully. The red flashing strobe is the masterstroke. Clean, crisp, clear sounds and easy tuning at a very reasonable price. What's not to love?

Perfect radio! This radio has an adjustable alert tone, with a strobe light as well! It decodes alerts very well even in low signal situations and is worth the money. It’s easy to use even and if it’s running on battery its life lasts for a long time, and it’s even light weight. This is one of the easiest radios to use.

This is one of the best weather radios out there. -We have one as we are in tornado alley and it really works better than some of the local notifications. Family were just Military moved to So. FL. They will need to be hurricane and flood ready as we goth this unit for them. We like that it has a great battery life and the size if perfect for a shelf in our closet. We are able to hear the notice everywhere in our home. Also like the night time setting so we can be alerted if the storms come in the middle of the night. NOAA is the best and this was a great price for the Christmas gift giving.
