Q: Is it necessary to purchase ultra soft bristles or are the soft ones soft enough?

It depends on your preference, I think. I don't think the soft ones are soft enough. I have really sensitive teeth and gums and love the Ultra Soft. I only buy Preserve Ultra Soft now because any other toothbrush doesn't seem soft enough.

Q: Are these recyclable on their own? I read that the recycle program has ended.

Q: Are the 6 in different colors?

No you get a mixture....some are the same color with one to two that are different. Do love the toothbrushes though.

Q: Are the heads of these toothbrushes too big for a child? Trying to be eco-friendly and economical. Would be great to just buy the 6 pack for all.

They are probably ok for a child past 9 years old or so. The head is a bit smaller than your average toothbrush.
