Mixed feelings
I wish I could have flipped through this book before I bought it. I’m not sure why so many reviewers said the recipes were complicated. A lot of the recipes are way too simple... I don’t need a recipe to sauté greens or roast potatoes. Some of the recipes are repeats of the same things you see in every cookbook like hummus, black bean burgers, and tofu-based chocolate mousse. Maybe vegan cookbooks have come a long way since 2011, because I’m not really inspired. I was looking for restaurant-style cooking with more interesting flavors and technique. A lot of the recipes feel like filler. Then there is a recipe for making your own seitan from 10 cups of flour, which is something I think only a more experienced cook would bother trying. There were a couple interesting recipes and techniques, but I am not sure how useful this book will be overall. There are some nice photos but some of them are blurry or not very relevant to the recipe. Finally, cipollini onions and grape hyacinth bulbs are two completely different plants, but one of the recipes claims they are the same... I’m pretty sure they would produce different results.

vegan recipies I would make
This book was a gift to my 23 year old granddaughter who has been a vegan for the past three or four years. I frankly think the diet is too fanatic and a bit of milk, cheese, chicken and fish make a vegatarian diet more sound: That being said, I set out in search of the gift. Naturally I went to Amazon to shop because there I could compare more books than I wanted. The first ten were absurd and then I fell upon Candle 79 and discovered recipies quite similiar to those I prepare quite frequently. The photos in the book are quite attractive and the paper of the book is a good quality.A big plus there was not a tofu turkey or a carrot masquarading as a sausage - why do they do that? This is a fine book for a sane vegatarian who wants to produce attractive, tasty dishes that even a carnivore would enjoy

Candle Lit My Fire
I was blown away by Candle 79. Not just the food, but the special person that introduced me to the restaurant. Never had vegan food that was so artistically presented and exciting. I could hardly believe my taste buds. The owner had stopped by our table to chat and give us a postcard announcing the book's publication.Since I live 3000 miles away from the restaurant, I wanted to preserve that special evening, special dinner by buying the cookbook. The photographs are beautiful, but I've found so far the recipes too involved, or requiring pricey/special ingredients not easily found in your neighborhood grocery store. Still, I hope to make a few dishes to expand my repertoire.

I like it!
If debating between this and the Blossom cookbook, this wins hands down! There’s a seitan recipe for their signature seitan piccata dish, a ginger soda elixir, and many more. very good read but some of the recipes are time consuming.

A Great Restaurant - A Great Cookbook
Had lunch at this restaurant when in New York last time, and it was terrific. They had the book on sale at the restaurant and it looked excellent with all of the lunch items that we ordered in the book. Thought it would be a good souvenir but got distracted and didn't make the purchase. Glad I was able to find it on Amazon, and especially glad that a "like new" copy was so reasonably priced. The book was as expected - could not tell the difference from a new one. And the recipes, while not easy, are comprehensive and well illustrated. For a vegan, this restaurant is phenomenal, and the book essential for the cookbook library.

I can make my favorite dish at home! Thank you!
One of my favorite Vegan restaurants and they have a cookbook? Yes, please! And they have my favorite dish - Seitan Piccata? I'm in heaven. The recipes are great, not overly complicated like some restaurant cookbooks. And I like the pictures. I just wish I didn't have to do all the dishes :). I love vegan food, but even if you don't know much about it, this may just convert you. And if you ever find yourself in NYC, run, don't walk, to Candle 79.

So yummy!!
This beautiful cookbook includes a range of recipes from appetizers and salads through entrées and desserts -- even some spectacular drinks -- accompanied by photos that make my mouth water. It will surely change your mind about sustainability tasting like sacrifice. This food is just incredibly delicious. You don't have to be vegetarian or vegan to fall in love with the food made at Candle 79. I'm certainly an omnivore, but this restaurant is one of my favorite places on the planet to eat; I never miss an opportunity to go whenever I'm in New York City. I'm thrilled to have their cookbook close at hand so I can recreate their amazing dishes in my own kitchen!

After visiting the New York restaurant I invested in this book. Very fast delivery but a lot of the ingredients are difficult to obtain for the recipes.
