Inexpensive copy of an incredible story!
As far as content goes, this has always been a 5 star read for me. If you aren't familiar with the works of the gothic era, especially the ones with a subplot of romance, knowing that Northanger Abbey is a little tasteful hint of mockery towards them will make it even more enjoyable for you as a reader. It's so tongue-in-cheek, but in a good way. At the same time, it is beautiful, relatable despite the significant time and societal differences, and at times extremely poetic. My favorite quotes: "Friendship is certainly the finest balm for the pangs of disappointed love." "I shall not pay them any such compliment, I assure you. I have no notion of treating men with such respect, that is the way to spoil them!" "The person, be it gentleman or lady, who has not pleasure in a good novel, must be intolerably stupid." "Her mind made up and her resolution formed of always judging and acting in future with the greatest good sense, she had nothing to do but forgive herself and be happier than ever." "There is nothing I would not do for those who are really my friends. I have no notion of loving people by halves, it is not in my nature." "Where the heart is really attached, I know very well how little one can be pleased with the attention of anybody else." This was the very first literary classic that I ever read, and I have adored it ever since. For me, a 5 star read requires characters who are unforgettable, whether it's due to them being dreamy and heroic or outstandingly unlikeable. The first time I read Northanger Abbey, every single character lived rent free in my brain long after the last page. And after many years and many reads, Northanger Abbey never stops being good. I haven't read any other Jane Austen, so can't compare it to any of her other work, but hopefully someday (though I always just come back to Northanger Abbey 😉) Now, the book quality itself: I'm reviewing the Wordsworth version of this book. I'm picky and don't usually like real pictures on the cover like this, but this set is beautiful, especially when lined up next to each other. This is a nice, inexpensive option for students or someone who doesn't know if they will be reading it again. I posted pictures of my unread Mansfield Park with my newest copy of Northanger Abbey (copy was read twice) and there is a huge difference. I don't treat my books super rough, but I don't baby them either, and just from reading twice and repeatedly taking in and out of my purse or bag, it already looks a little rough. Of course, when I can afford it I'll buy a better edition, but in the mean time this works for me. You can't beat the price. The printing is clear, with easy to read word spacing and fonts. As with most classics, the chapters don't all start on their own page, which can be annoying to some people, but it's just how classics tend to be, and it also reduces material waste, so yay! 🌍 ♻️ Happy reading!

A Nice Own!!
A nice-looking cover to this book! The size feels good in the hands, too. Not too big or bulky. The Dover Thrift one has a pretty cover but is kind of awkward to hold. The story, of course, is funny. If you know the aims of gothic romance, you know Jane Austen is lightly poking fun at it, but in good taste. She is crafty and also shows the details of her Era with mastery. A nice book to read and a great own for a lover of literature.

The book you receive may not be the cover pictured
I love all Jane Austen novels. I saw this collection with the beautifully designed covers illustrated by Holly Dunn. I ordered a few of the books and 2 of them came with a different more standard looking cover. I am returning them and hoping the next order will have the correct cover art.

Even though the product was delivered on time, I'm quite unhappy with it. There is a considerable amount of damages done- folded pages, scarred and scratched cover. Moreover, the page quality and the print is so cheap and fragile that the ink looks like it may smear and smudge. It is not worth the money. (I had ordered the paperback version of Wordsworth Classics.)

Atrapalha a leitura.
