Indestructible watch that does everything you need at the right price.
I've owned this watch a week now it's it my first and only G-Shock watch. I do a lot of mountain biking and bike camping, and my "nice" watch was always left behind. This seemed like a good, cheap alternative for a solid reliable watch. Here are the things I like about this watch and why I choose it. First, it has everything you need. There are more fully featured watches, but do you need them? I do not need a thermometer, sunrise/set, moon phase, or barometer. A compass might be nice but I can live without it. If you're the type of person who needs those features you know it. It's not solar, but this is an advantage in a low-maintenance watch. I have another solar watch, but I'm fine with a battery. Both need to be swapped out over so many years anyway and the solar is more maintenance. I have to charge it twice per year, once in the summer sun and an overnight boost in the winter from my strong LED bicycle light. This watch is set-and-forget. It lacks atomic radio sync. I have it on another watch and I like it. I am slightly OCD so I checked the G-Shock's time after a week, it's still on the same second. I can eyeball a slight difference. The atomic G-Shock is around $200, this one is around $50. I can live with that. The mudman has a raised back so the watch doesn't stick to your wrist. If you're into sports that make you all sweaty this is really nice. The main reason I like this watch is that it's normal sized. I have a 7" wrist and it's totally balanced in terms of size. Most G-Shocks, especially the newest ones, have ballooned into a huge monstrous size, as if this makes you more manly. There's nothing wrong with a big watch but it's not my style. There are very few medium sized G-Shocks, this is one of them. The buttons are a little hard to press as everyone has mentioned. It's designed that way to keep grit out and it's really not a big deal. Finally, how can you beat the price? It's inexpensive and lightweight. I can take it anywhere, bash it into trees, stuff it into my backpack, sweat all over it, then run it over the sink for a bit and it's like new. I'm looking forward to wearing this one for the next several years. I will likely get bored of it before it outlives its usefulness but I'll keep updating this review.

That got weird.
I honestly think this is the perfect watch. I had it years ago and wore it tech diving 200+' as a redundant timing device for deco. I always wear a wristwatch too. A few years ago I switched to Samsung Galaxy smart watches. Recently bought the Ultra. But I realized they don't help my life but distracted me from it. I went back to a cheaper gshock but didn't like the buttons. I tried Timex. It was good, but not great. Too small looking on my wrist. I really wanted the perfect watch and eventually came back to the same one I had a decade ago. This one. Buttons... Perfect. Looks .. perfect. Display... Perfect. Night light...perfect. Strap with double holes... Perfect. Price.... Perfect. I feel like I reconnected with an old friend. But one of those friends that you don't care about impressing each other. You just have fun being yourself. I never went to a high school reunion. Never wanted to. Does anybody want to? I've never met someone that wants to. I'm going to eat some pie now.

A tough, stylish, reliable G-Shock.
We own a number of G-Shocks - my boys own the following: GD100-MS1, the GLX-5600, G7900-1 Rescue, G2900-1V. I own the G9300-1 Mudman, and this - the G9000-1V Mudman. Of all the G's we own, this is right up there with my favorites, and I wear it often. It actually sees more wrist time than my G9300 since it is smaller and wears lighter, I like the way it wears. At first, I was not as satisfied with the function buttons - originally they were difficult to push as some have clearly stated in other reviews. However, I am not sure if they have loosened up over time, but they don't seem to me that they are as hard to push as when the watch was new. I operate the buttons now without thinking about it and without much difficulty now. Like I said, I am not sure if it is because I got used to them, or they have worn in and loosened up - it might be a little of both. Although they are not as easy to push as the other G's I own, it is not that big of a deal. As far as functions - I bought the G9000 Mudman due to it's reputation of having one of the better G modules out there - and in my opinion it has lived up to that billing. Two stopwatches, a countdown timer, International timezones, four alarms, snooze, a nice bright, easy to push light and more.... Plus, I like the way this reads compared to other G's in normal lighting - it has a bright face, and reads well in all lighting conditions. The letters, date, etc are all easy to read too - even for my old eyes! Many other G-Shocks have certain parts of the face that are not easy to read- like the date on some models, but on this Mucman due to the display brightness, font used, etc I like the way it reads and have no trouble with it. The only "con" I can think of is the "2" used in military time - it is a little "squashed" due to the way it is displayed.... a minor thing, but it is a lame looking "2". Others have complained about the nubs on the back being uncomfortable when wearing the watch for extended periods - I have not noticed that, and I have used it for woodworking and other strenuous tasks. It might depend on how tight you cinch the watch while wearing it, or perhaps on wrist shape - I could see that others could be bothered by it, but it has not bothered me at all. Also, others have complained about the buttons being difficult to push - I have to agree the buttons are not the easiest to push compared to many other G's, BUT like I mention above I don' t mind it or notice it as much, and it seems to have improved as the buttons have become broken in. The buttons on this Mudman will not be for everyone, I am not trying to say they are easy to push - only that I don't mind them, and I realize to make the watch mud proof there has to be some trade off. Considering I got this watch for much less than the retail price here on Amazon, I could not be happier with its performance after five months of ownership. Would recommend to anyone looking for a tough, good looking G.

So far i love it. It can take some abuse and that's why I got it. Yes, the buttons are hard to press but unlike other watches, the buttons are hard to get dirt and mud into (hence the mud-proofness). Very happy with this watch edit: I'm adding something that I noticed last week (4 months after purchase): There's a tiny bit of condensation forming on the inside of the watch. I removed a star for that because this being a waterproof watch, it seems to me it should have been sealed in a dry environment to not trap humidity in there. So either it was not sealed right, or moisture found its way in. 2nd edit: I contacted support and I was informed that a little bit of condensation, that goes away after roughly half a minute is normal if going from dry to humid environment or very cold into hot (iirc). This may have been the case, as I was outside in minus 20 C and very dry and noticed it when I got back inside (warm and humid). It also didn't last long. So I will put back the star, and if it doesn't get worse and only occurs under those circumstances, will leave it at 5. 3rd edit: (1 year later) It got worse. I sent it in for repair, but they did nothing to it. It's actually pretty ridiculous. I was out in the cold last week, and the half that was at the edge of my jacket sleeve was completely covered in condensate, whereas the warmer part, was clear. I still get condensation when coming out of the shower. Terrible. I am pulling out two more stars. Otherwise the watch is still good and sturdy, but I wouldn't pay for another one. I'll try to get it replaced by my credit card's warranty extension. If they do, I'll update again. Ok, FINAL EDIT april 2017: Maybe it was a fluke, who knows, but i didn't throw it out and ended up having to change the battery on it. I won't get into the details here, but when I sent the watch to the repair center in ontario, they didn't even open the watch to attempt to repair it. I cleaned out the inside lid that had some material trapped in there preventing it from sealing properly, and my watch has been working PERFECTLY since I did that. No humidity and as sturdy as a Gshock should be.

Very attractive and sturdy watch however size is pretty small, almost as small as baby g shock. It has beautiful dual illuminating light. Unfortunately I can't wear it as it's quite small on my wrist but still keeping it for my collection instead of returning it.
