The Muppet Christmas Carol (1993) (Disney) [VHS] [1992]

Already had on DVD but wanted to upgrade to blu ray. Directed by Brian Henson who took over after the passing of his dad he does a wonderful job of keeping the spirits of the Muppets alive as his father envisioned them. If you only watch one version of the classic Charles Dickens tale then The Muppets Christmas Carol is the absolute and most faithful albeit having puppet creatures. Kermit and Miss Piggy of course play Mr and Mrs Cratchet. Michael Cain does a wonderful job portraying Ebenezer Scrooge and makes it believable he is working with real actors and not just puppet's. This is a timeless classic to be enjoyed by everyone at Christmas.

The best Muppet Movie and the closest adaptation of Dickens’ classic novel ever made into a movie.

I had the Muppets Christmas Carol many years ago on video and just about wore it out. It is a reasonably accurate rendition of the story (other than ice skating penguin parties etc) and unlike other versions offers an insight into how Scrooge became the man he was and highlighting his relationship with Belle making it a sensitive piece and making sense of the sequence of events. With such a good film, for some reason Disney then decided to airbrush Belle out focusing on the ghosts as do others. By taking the "when Love is Gone" song out in the dvd the story makes far less sense. Also musical phrases from it are regularly repeated including in the final reprise. If the song is taken out from the earlier part of the film its inclusion in this makes no sense. But hey, that's Disney for you. A great film, but stick to the original on video if you can still get it and if not lobby Disney to re-relase it on dvd in it's original form.

There are many christmas films that people love. But for me, this film stands head and shoulders above the rest. This heartwarming take on the classic Dickensian Christmas allows for you to really reach the heights of happiness on what is or many, the happiest day of the year. The casting of Michael Caine as Scrooge works perfectly as we see his transformation from miserable miser to frivolous fellow. We go on a journey with Scrooge and it is no easy task but Caine rises to it with aplomb. The Muppets as always provide great amounts of laughter with their quick jokes, clever songs and great character combinations. The back and forth between Rizzo and Gonzo is a classic example of how to perfectly craft your characters interaction to make it feel real, even though we definitively know that our beloved Muppets sit in a slightly different reality than us. If you have not seen this film, go get it. Wait till December the first and then fill your house with the joy of the season.

Watched this when it was first released and loved it. It goes on every year, at least once (or twice) and never ages. The dialogue and interaction between Michael Caine and the Muppets is genius. Here is the Christmas spirit, (pun intended) wrapped in gorgeous settings and lovable characters. Highly recommended.

Reviewing 4k Amazon Prime Streaming. Excellent colour and detail. An essential Christmas Classic for all the family. But. Belle’s song has been left out AGAIN. Please restore it.

This is the normal length theatrical release of the film, it doesn't have the "When Love Is Gone" song performed by young Scrooge & Belle included in the Christmas past segment, you will have to go to Disney+ to see the full version of this film.

How absolutely wonderful! This is one of the best adaptations of A Christmas Carol. The best part is that they put Belle's song back in. It is funny, poignant, moving and very entertaining. Such an enjoyable moviie.

Really is enjoyable and seemingly translated well. I recommend it for children and adults as an alternative fun Christmas tale.

This is one of my favorite movies -- right up there with The Sound of Music! I have the old VCR tape already, but I know it won't last, as my VCR won't either. I look forward to watching it every Christmas Day (& this BluRay version has extras!), along with The Man Who Invented Christmas. If you love Dickens, Scrooge, &/or the Muppets, you will love this well-done movie. It's hilarious yet touching. Your kids will love it, too. I have seen it more times than I can count, yet every time I notice something new. Excellent job, Muppets & Michael Caine!
