Old version verses new
A right pain in the neck. So many things to do unless you use the Ai or preset functions. Older models with more options far easier to use with much better results, as you can be in control much quicker.

Small, light & easy to carry around when travelling. Zoom range is sufficient for bird & animal video/photo.

I recently got into photography and this is a great point and shoot camera. The zoom is INCREDIBLE. Pictures at full zoom (1200mm) come out crystal clear. When traveling across Europe, I sometimes used it as a telescope to see something (like the top of a cathedral better) because the zoom was that good. It's 100% worth the investment and the camera is far smarter than I am. I've had the camera for 9 months and have never regretted this purchase.

I was able to get some amazing night video of kilauea's eruption. Lava shows up nice especially with the zoom this camera has. The zoom feature is pretty awesome for getting shots from a distance. I didn't give it five stars because this camera doesn't do very well for night shots. Example I couldn't set an exposure long enough to get a picture of the Milky Way. And I live where there's no light pollution.

I was looking for something that would go bridge my camera phone but not be as bulky as packing around my dslr and this is what I chose and am very happy with it. It certainly has its limitations, especially if you are using the highest optical zoom. I recommend keeping a tripod nearby. The various settings are nice but can be a little non intuitive to get to so it takes some practice and patience. Where I find it struggles is in areas of high contrast like rooms with windows in the background. It can be difficult in getting the camera to cooperate and wants to shift balance suddenly. Overall still a great camera.

I wanted so much to really love this camera, and the price and zoom were indeed awesome, but final results were mixed. I am admittedly, a "pixel peeper" and immediately after feeding my pics to my PC, I begin giving them great scrutiny to edit slightly etc.. These pics on the face looked great but upon close inspection looked a bit grainy despite my best efforts at keeping ISO low. It's also a pretty "slow" camera" and in shade or lower light at the end of the day there's was practically no way to get a nice shot unless cranking the ISO and putting up with the resulting grain. I even tried using Topaz de-noise programs and there was just not much to work with. I returned the camera and ended up with a used Sony RX10 IV which only has half the zoom at 600m but at least double the resolution (and cost twice as much). If a light, somewhat cheap way to get a 1200mm zoom for use only in bright light, and you're only interested in posting to social media, this camera might be a good choice, otherwise, you might be disappointed.
