Chili Con Carnage: 1 (A Chili Cook-off Mystery) : Logan, Kylie: desertcart.in: Books Review: Fininshed one of the four books starting on the second. I like to get my Authors books in order then read them at the time. Very good reading Review: This is a fun and humorous read where Maxie, our reluctant sleuth, starts an investigation when one of the roadie is murder and suspicions is cast upon her. What we have is a nicely executed whodunit that immediately entertains in this action-filled drama from the dancing chili to the apprehension of the killer. The author did a good job in keeping this mystery fresh and appetizing as we follow our spunky heroine who delighted me with her timely comedic escapades in her search for the truth. With a comfortable tone, the feel of being at traveling show, a group of eccentrically diverse characters and engaging dialogue, this was a wonderfully enjoyable read and I can't wait to see what's next up for Maxie and her friends.

The main characters are not very likable. I thought the story dragged a good bit. Not sure if I’ll read another from this series

In my many searches for new authors through Amazon, I've seen Kylie Logan books many times. I never bought one because , well they seemed to be about buttons. I don't know much about buttons and I'm not remotely interested in them. I mean, they're buttons. CHILI. Now that's something I can get with. When I saw this book I thought I'd check it out. I'm so glad I did. I absolutely loved it. There is lots of humor, good character development, well paced plotting and just a touch of romance. I especially loved the love/hate relationship between the protagonist, Maxie and her half-sister. They get on each other's last nerve and they are both flawed, but endearing characters. All the supporting characters are well developed and real. I have come to the conclusion that if anyone can make buttons entertaining, Kylie Logan can. So I guess I'll go back and read the button books while I wait for the next Chili book to come out

As these types of cozy mysteries go, this one went pretty well, actually. Not a fantastic book, but a good read.
