The Pitaka MagEZ Folio 2 over Apple Smart Folio?
In the world of “folio” style iPad cases, the Pitaka MagEZ Folio 2 for iPad Pro is a breath of fresh air. After using Apple’s Smart Folio for years I've always wondered why its shortcomings keep returning iteration after iteration with no obvious solutions. So how does the Pitaka MagEZ Folio 2 stack up? Visually this case is stunning. Very slim and stylish, this product is stealthy enough not to be overly loud and unprofessional yet still catch your attention. I have had a few people in passing ask what I was using when I brought it out in the field with me. The high-quality materials such as scratch-resistant polyurethane leather make it feel like a premium product and give it a sense of durability that most folios lack. The black is sleek but I love that it also comes in white. At the time of purchase the white was unfortunately unavailable. Now for the features, there are two specifics that I’ve always wanted in a folio style case and Pitaka delivers on both of them. First is the Apple Pencil holder. My previous folio cases basically ignored the pencil all together, making it not the best solution for a designer. This one has a little magnetic flap that holds the pencil securely so I don't have to worry so much about it popping off and getting lost. If this saves me from losing one pencil at $129 US it's already more than paid for itself. And for days when I’m not toting the pencil around, Pitaka engineered a little recess where the flap can easily fold out of the way. Attention to detail is key. Now for the main stand out feature that I’ve been asking for for years. The Pitaka MagEZ Folio 2 not only has two standing orientations but also varying degrees of tilt. This feature is essential for me and makes this accessory a must have. Apple’s Magic Keyboard and Smart Folio don't even offer the option for portrait orientation. While the Magic Keyboard does tilt to some degree, I cannot use it easily with the Apple Pencil very well and forget about trying to do any design work. The flip top cover also wakes the device which is a feature that you don't realize how important it is till you use a folio that doesn't include it. The Pitaka MagEZ Folio 2 can do 4 degrees of tilt, one for portrait 3 three for landscape. In portrait it can do a 62 degree angle which I find very useful for reading or scrolling through web pages. In landscape this folio can do 34 degrees for drafting or drawing work which I find to be super comfortable. But also it can sit at 57 or 53 degrees. I found these angles great for video calls or Facetime. When I’m getting a little bit of glare at one angle I can quickly swap to the other angle and it usually alleviates the problem. Now I’ve used the MagEZ Case 2 and MagEZ Stand for a long time now (would kill for the MagEZ Pro and wireless charging stand) at home and I was worried if there would be compatibility issues. I’m happy to report that they work flawlessly together. The design team obviously made an effort for compatibility and they fit so well together that it brought a smile to my face. Now for the price, at $59 at time of writing I feel its more than fair. The Apple Smart Folio is $79 and offers less in terms of functionality. Sure they have more of a variety of colors but if color is more important than function to you, why are you reading a review? You would be hard pressed to find a folio style case that has so much to offer and is made of such premium feeling materials at this price. In conclusion, I’ve had a number of Pitaka products over the years and while I have not always been in love with them, they have made consistent improvements year after year. I don't believe in being a brand fanboy and I explore products from everyone whenever something new comes out. But for a while now I can say that all roads have lead me to Pitaka. From my iPhone 14 Pro Max to my iPad Pro I have found that almost exclusively all my needs have been met by their products without compromise. I recommended the The Pitaka MagEZ Folio 2 for its durability and versatility.

Best case I bought.
I am in love with this case. I bought the Apple Smart Folio case first, noticed how wobbly it is on a hard surface and then I had to keep a hand on it at all times in my lap and that made me super nervous. Then I got the ESR case that has the different angles and strong magnets but that thing was heavy as heck. It made my iPad feel really bulky and I hated having to carry it around bc it was like a brick. Then I came across this case. It’s stable which is a big thing. It doesn’t rock no matter how you have it set up. I can have it on my lap, my table or even the arm on my chair and it doesn’t wobble or anything. The magnets to hold the iPad are incredibly strong so it’s not going anywhere. I put the Apple Smart Folio and then the Pitaka case in the other and honestly you can not tell the difference between the two weight wise. It keeps the iPad feeling thin and the material is easy to clean compared to the silicone cover that shows everything and is hard to get everything off. The different angles on this make it easy to use. I can walk away from it knowing that it’s not going to just flop over. I love the feel of this case. It’s easy to switch between the different angles once you get use to it. When you wanna close it with the flap it hugs your Apple Pencil so no need to worry about that falling off either. I wanted my iPad Pro 13” to feel as thin as I could with a case on it and this is perfect for that. I’m not worried about the corners not being protected bc in the past 6-8 years of owning iPads I never dropped a single one. The sides do come up a little more than the Apple Smart Folio so I would assume if you did drop it, it’s going to hit the case before the iPad but again I don’t drop my iPads so I wouldn’t know for sure. I will say all around it is an awesome case and definitely worth the money.

Versatile, light weight and useful pencil holder
I returned my iPad Pro m5 and had a hard time returning this case because it was amazingly good. Strong magnet, allowed for multiple and useful configurations, great option for securing pencil, super light. If I decide to buy an iPad again, this will be my go to cover.

Great product but questionable Durability
Great feel when you carry it. It's also light. Magnets are strong but you can take your ipad out if you need to. However, the durability is not that good. There is already creasing and ripping of the corner where it folds. I only used it for a month, placing it mainly in normal wooden study tables. I don't drag or slide it around either.

Same great fit but with new Tricks
I’ve been using my trusty Apple Branded Smart Folio Case with my iPad Pro 11” (M2 model) for a while. It has served me well, but it’s always been missing something. Sure, it can prop up my iPad in two different heights in landscape mode, but that’s about it. Enter the Pitaka iPad Pro Case. It fits like a glove and protects the same as the Apple Smart Folio case but does so much more. Sure, it magnetically attaches to the back of the iPad and wakes the iPad when you open the lid same as the Apple Smart Folio. But when you have an Apple Pencil attached to the edge of the iPad, you can fold out a flap that keeps your pencil securely attached. When going without the Pencil, that same tab neatly tucks magnetically between the iPad and the case so you don’t even notice it. The lid also has some cool origami folding tricks that give you so many more options to prop up your iPad than the Apple case. While the Apple case does two different landscaping angles, this Pitaka case does those plus another landscape angle and it has one that allows you to prop up your iPad in Portrait mode, too! You loose nothing and gain so much! It’s built really well, looks great and is much more functional. Not to mention that it costs less, too! I already have a carbon fiber Apple Watch band and thin case for my iPhone, and now I can round out the Pitaka collection with this awesome iPad case.

Having used the PITAKA Mag Folio case for both my iPad Pro 12.9" and my new iPad Air 13", I can confidently say this is one of the best cases on the market. My biggest frustration with the Apple official folio was the lack of ability to use it in portrait mode. The premium leather-like finish, strong magnetic attachment, and versatile viewing angles make it a standout choice. In addition, unlike the Apple official, this one won’t get lint and fingerprints stuck on it! Design & Build Quality The first thing you notice is the exceptional leather-like texture. It feels high-end and well-crafted, giving the iPad a sophisticated look without adding unnecessary bulk. The case maintains a minimalist profile, yet it’s thick enough to provide solid protection. PITAKA’s packaging is also top-notch, reinforcing the premium feel of the product. Magnetic Attachment & Security One of my biggest concerns with magnetic cases is whether they’ll securely hold my iPad in place—this case absolutely does. I’ve attached my iPad and even waved the case around, and the magnets are impressively strong, ensuring it stays firmly in place. This provides great peace of mind, especially when using the iPad on the go. Check out my image showing me hanging the iPad on the magnets! Viewing Angles & Usability This case truly shines with its multiple sturdy viewing angles. Unlike Apple's official case, as mentioned above, which has limited viewing options, PITAKA’s case offers versatile positions, including a much-needed portrait mode. I often use my iPad in bed, propping it up on a pillow, and this case makes that effortless. The stand is solid and doesn’t collapse under pressure, which is a huge plus. Apple Pencil Integration While I don’t always keep an Apple Pencil attached, I appreciate that the case includes a flap to secure the pencil and also acts as a front cover lock. It adds extra security when carrying the iPad. What Could Be Better? More Color Options: Right now, it’s limited to black, blue, and white. It would be great to see colors that complement the iPad Air lineup. Better yet - if there could be a similar offering to their aramid fibre colours (perhaps too big an ask - literally - but I'd probably be willing to pay the premium!). Yes, I know back plates are already available in aramid, but a full folio case would be amazing, especially in the new PTK colours. Final Thoughts PITAKA has done an excellent job with this case. It’s premium, protective, and practical, offering strong magnets, multiple viewing angles, and high-quality materials. The security of the Apple Pencil, sturdy stand positions, and sleek design make it a must-have for iPad users looking for a refined case. If you can look past the limited color options and the non-removable pencil flap, this case is a fantastic choice.

This is a really nice folio case, it is super slim adds a really not amount of protection and stability…..we can all agree we all need a little stability in our lives. The leatherette material is smooth but provides more grip than the IPad itself. It can be stood in all different angles and this is the only folio case that the portrait mode is actually stable. The price on this is not cheap but when you think about the investment of a very expensive IPad this should really be a no brainer. Don’t waste time and money cheaping out. BUY THIS ONE!

it's well built, quality is great, feeling is great, while also teh weight is very acceptable, you won't much feel the weight .. The cover of the Pencil is lovely, it really holds it there, and you don't much think you might lose it like before. The ways to stand is lovely (for me it's only 3 ways) I cannot see the difference in the forth one they advertised, not much to be considered as a separate angel to use it with. It's steady failry The NON-NICE thing is that the fabric (very lovely and soft) which is the back side of the leather, is going to attach much of dust or dirt and it's almost impossible to clean, while the same idea they made it soft to protect the back of the iPad and the Screen of it, it's annoying to be dirty especially when you're using the Black color, which is very clear on it (I think the white will have the same concept but different type of dirt to be shown) Overall, I recommend highly, while the 4 Stars is just as I believe to get something like this (as a concept) and to pay that much, is painful LOL .. that's all
