necessary when your Smart home goes dumb

Get a smart home - install a camera and watch while you are on holiday. I have IP switches that can be turned on/off - but everything stops when the internet goes down and you can't re-boot the router. Now I can by phone......except the 3 units I bought each randomly lose the phone signal, sometimes for days. Then, while we are away from home the switches are useless?
