The process began with installing the Govee app and plugging in the Wi-Fi gateway. With just a quick button press, the app detected and paired with the gateway seamlessly. The temperature sensor itself requires two AA batteries (included), and while unscrewing the cover was a bit difficult, it's clearly designed that way to maintain waterproofing. Although the pairing instructions were provided, I didn’t need them—once I added a thermometer in the app, it paired automatically. I dropped the sensor into the pool and secured it to our steps using the included lanyard. Within a couple of minutes, the app displayed the correct water temperature, matching the sensor's screen which has nice big digits making it easy to read without lifting it from the water. The range is excellent. In my setup, the gateway is in the garage—about 75 feet from the floating sensor—and the connection remains strong. I also appreciate the app’s ability to store historical data and display graphs, which is great for tracking temperature trends. I discovered our electric air-source heat pump starts warming the pool around 15 minutes after sunrise, so now I can save money by turning it off overnight and restarting it in the morning. Despite some reviews to the contrary, I was able to connect the thermometer to our Alexa system without issue. Now, I can ask, "What's the pool temperature?" and get an accurate answer within five seconds. I did notice that Alexa can take up to ten minutes to reflect recent temperature changes, which might explain the trouble others have mentioned. One thing to note for software developers is that this sensor is not supported by the public API that Govee has, this is particularly annoying as Amazon and Google have access to the sensor, but not the rest of us. I've confirmed that this is the case with Govee support. Overall, this is a well-built device that offers excellent value for money. It’s one of the rare tech products that has actually become more affordable over time. I'm hoping it holds up well and that the batteries last; if not, I’ll update my review.

Excellent wireless pool or spa thermometer. I'm using it in an inflatable hot tub though it could be used in a pool or even a pond. It seems accurate out of the box but there is also an option to calibrate it in the app. Connecting the gateway to my network and the sensor to the gateway was super easy and intuitive. I've never used a govee product before and didn't even need the manual to connect it. It works well and the range is great too. I'm a little disappointed by the screen on the thermometer though. After a few days in the hot tub it almost looks like the screen is beginning to show signs of etching. It's still easy to read but has a hazy whitish streaks over it. I thought I'd try to clean it later but I don't think that's going to make a difference. It's smaller than expected which is great and it floats well. Oh it eve came with the 2 necessary triple A batteries. I was impressed by that. Overall I'd definitely recommend it and may buy another one for the pond we have.

GoveeLife Smart Pool Thermometer with WiFi Gateway – Digital Swimming Water Thermometer (2 Pack) I really wanted to love these. I bought the two-pack so I could monitor both my hot tub and my pool, and the idea behind them is great. Pros: Being able to check the water temperature while away from home is very convenient. It’s nice to be able to ask Alexa for the pool temperature. When walking by the pool, the display is easy to see from pool height. Integration with the Govee ecosystem is a plus since most of my smart lighting is already in the same app. Cons: The units often disconnect from the base station. It’s not a major issue, but you do end up having to reset them by opening the unit or unplugging the base occasionally. I had to reconnect them to Alexa a few times as well. The bigger problem is durability. In less than a year, one unit stopped working completely and the other now only displays part of the screen. I made sure the units were tightened properly to keep water out, but one of them clearly had water intrusion. The other appears dry inside but still isn’t functioning correctly. I really wanted these to work long-term because the concept is great and it’s nice having everything in the same Govee app as the rest of my smart home setup. At this point I’m not sure if it’s worth trying another set or if I should look at other brands.

Been using one of the sensors in my hot tub for about a month now and seems to be working as expected. I like to be able to check the temp especially when it is -30C outside.
