Needed an overhaul, Gretsch take note
I'm only giving it 5 stars because I've made extensive modifications so it would be a truly great playing and sounding guitar by employing a luthier to install the same locking tuners as found on high-end Gretsch guitars, replacing the stock bridge with a roller bridge so the tremolo activity won't result in broken strings, replacing the muddy pickups with the same pickups found on high-end Gretsch guitars, conditioning the wood of the fretboard, filing the ends of the frets so they're smooth, filing the tops so they're level, filing the nut slots into U shapes so they won't cause as much friction, and continuing the abalone motif that Gretsch used for the headstock logo elsewhere by laminating the truss cover and pick guard with abalone from New Zealand. I bought Gretsch's best case for it here on Amazon and it's not quite up to snuff either. The B50 tremolo will also be swapped for a U.S.-made B5. The guitar is currently at the luthier for the pickup swap but here's a few photos of the brand new instrument in progress.
