EXCELLENT product
However, had to return it.Not "thick" enough. My desk chair would not move easily, and left pressure marks on the mat.I have had to replace it with a "thicker" mat.

Horrible mat. Update: Still not laying flat. Now it is full of small cracks all over.
Horrible Mat. Read the instructions, cut my hands trying to unravel. Finally got it sort of flat and left heavy boxes all over the mat for a weekend. Monday, removed the boxes and it still wasn't flat. Moved the mat to where it belongs and it has waves, the edges are raised so it has become a tripping hazard and I can't open the bottom drawer of a file cabinet. I have been putting heavy boxes all around the edges to try and flatten it. Its been 2 weeks, still wavy. What a waste of money. UPDATE: A month later, many heavy boxes used to try and flatten it, still not flat. And it's a tripping hazard. I'll have to have someone come, with very heavy gloves as the puncture wounds on my hands finally healed, to try and reroll it to throw it away. Stay away from all things Homek. UPDATE 07/2024: The edge is still rolled under, not laying flat. And now if has developed small cracks all over. UPDATE 12/2024-The entire mat is falling apart in little pieces. Stay away from this mat, a total waste of money (and the edge is still rolled up a little, I have put heavy boxes on it off and on all year, still not flat)

order well in advance :-)
I previously bought a nice-looking chair mat, but it wasn't long before it began to buckle and it was near impossible to get the chair back on the mat if I rolled it over the edge, unless I lifted my fairly heavy gaming chair up and on it. This one appears that that will not be the issue. The edges seem very securely affixed to the rug with the very sharp points (very sharp!! don't walk on it when it is upside down without shoes!) and there is a slight edge that the chair rolls right up on if you roll off the mat. It does take a bit more effort to roll around on it with my type of chair - but I found that if I did not sit on just the edge of the seat when rolling, that helped immensely. My only complaint is what others mentioned: trying to unroll it out of the box without assistance, is a huge challenge. If it was warmer weather, I would have then put it outside in the sun, but since it was not, I set it in front of the wood stove and put a lot of very heavy items (very heavy is the key - like full tool-box heavy!) all over it. I left it there for over a week - and even then, I had to use a heat gun on some sections to soften it up. Hopefully it will retain its shape for as long as it will last - because it is made of extremely durable plastic, and I don't see it failing any time soon. It appears to be made of extremely good material; something I would expect to see in a commercial office environment. Any indentations from sitting in one place for a period of time, goes away fairly quickly.

Good for about 18-24 months, then begins cracking and falling apart
This mat, like many I've used over the last 20 years is good for about 18-24 months. At that point, it's literally falling apart and doing more harm than good for your carpet due to cracks allowing the carpet fibers to get pinched and pulled, and holes from where the studs on the bottom breaking off, taking a chunk of the top of the mat with them. It's not a "bad" mat, it's just average, and these things are wear and tear items. They sacrifice themselves to save your flooring. As long as you aren't expecting more than that, this should work well for you for a year or two.

Not just an office chair.mat..
Great, sharp on the bottom, piece of plastic. We use this one by our backdoor to protect our new carpet. Took a while to lay flat. We sat it out in the hot sun for a bit before using. We didn't notice any off putting smell. Highly recommend it!

Not the best
I bought this floormat to replace a different brand after having to replace the other (via their lifetime warranty) a couple of times. While the older one worked great, having to replace it every two years due to cracking was troublesome. So, I got this one and the first issue was trying to get it to lay flat. Most floormats will unroll, once out of the box and just need some encouragement to lay flat. Within a couple of hours they are ready to use. Not this one. After getting it out of the box and cutting to two straps that held it, it barely opened. Short version, it was quite the workout just to get it unrolled. Even then it was stubborn and the ends kept wanting to curl under. I finally got it open and, per their instructions laid flat objects on it and ended up leaving it overnight. By morning there were still some 'humps' on the areas that were not actively held down by boxes and other items but about 90% was ready to work. Then I sat in my chair. It was sort of like trying to roll my chair through mud. The chair would sink into the mat and leave divots. I spend 10-12 hours a day at my computer and this is not going to be fun waiting for the replacement mat to arrive. The previous mat I could shoot myself across the floor with a simple push. Guess I can put up replacing that one every two years if this is the alternative. Unless you are into wrestling with office furniture and weigh less than your chair, I would avoid this mat and look at another.

Heavy Duty!
Descriptions for this item: HOMEK Office Chair Mat for Carpet, Flat Packed 36" x 48" Desk Chair Mat for Carpeted Floors, No Dents Computer Chair Mat for Medium or Low Pile Carpet, Easy Glide Office Mat for Rolling Chairs I've had several mats like this before an all were a little on the soft side and the wheels of my chair would sink in and eventually start cracking the the mat. This one is thicker and sturdier than those I've had in the past and my chair wheels don't sink into it on the medium pile carpet in my office. After just a few days of use I can tell it's MUCH better and my chair glides of it like I was on a hard surface floor. Even though it cost a bit more than many chair mats, I'm very pleased with this one.

We live in rented accomodation and house has just had new carpets fitted as we moved in. We brought this for home office to protect the carpet from the wheels on the office chair. It was a little tricky to get it unfolded and in place, but after using it for sometime it is suhc an amazing product. It stays in place and has protected the carpet as intended. Woud highly reccomend this to anyone who wants to protect a carpet from office chair wheels.

It comes rolled up and is very very very hard. You have to warm it to unroll it. The spikes on the back make that difficult and painful. It takes 2 people to unroll it I had mine as pinned as possible against the radiator trying to soften it. It is still not flat. I believe Argos do a flat pack one at half the price!

Saved the carpet and is great. Only small issue is when first in use it takes ages to unroll the mat as it keeps trying to roll back up

This mat is very difficult to unroll even by two people. Pricks on the bottom side are very hard and sharp: even with garden gloves I got a few deep scratches.
