Some softer material may need fingers, or another tool.The handle loses it's finish in the dishwasher, but so far this is mostly an esthetic issue, and the metal does fine.The shaft rotates in the handle, which is not what you want for this kind of task. The solution is to put your fingertips on the metal shaft itself to stabilize, and leave the handle resting in your palm.So, this is ok, but not perfect.
