...feels solid and looks the part. Can imagine it will last a few years

This stainless-steel diffuser plate is pretty good quality. It is quite heavy in my hand, so it is densely made. This would allow it to have more even heat distribution across the whole surface, which is important for a diffuser plate. The one thing I would comment on is that there is an indent that sticks up on onside of the plate. I have to ensure that I position the plate so that the notched areas do not sit on top of the grill of my gas range so that the diffuser plate remains flat on the grill. Otherwise, this is a decent diffuser plate.

We've only used the induction plate once so far. It worked.

I have a brand new 2025 GE Cafe Induction stovetop and purchased this item to work with my older non-induction pots. The stovetop will turn off when it does not detect a proper piece of conduction cookware. The stove is amazing. This product, however, is not. The stove will detect the plate for a few minutes and then turn off. While it stays on for those few minutes, the water I was trying to boil did not get very hot. Spent 60 minutes trying to boil water for mac and cheese and had to give up. Sent in for a return. Does not work.

I got this heat plate primarily to use with my home gas hob burners, as the flames do tend to offer an uneven heat distribution, which is particularly difficult to manage with thin, small or aluminium pans and moka pots. This hot plate definitely works to address this problem - it's very solid and pretty heavy, and it dissipates the heat very effectively. So far, I've mostly used it with my mini egg pans (that I use to make small pancakes). On the open flame, these tend to overcook/burn around the edges before fully cooking in the middle. It does cook a lot slower than directly on the flame, but that's to be expected with pans smaller than the plate, as it is dissipating the heat, so I'm no longer getting all of it directed at the pan base, but I'm also not getting uneven cooking - the browning on the underside of the pancakes takes longer, but is a lot more controlled and gives a very even colour. It heats the moka pot very well - again, more slowly (because the plate is larger than the footprint of the pot). It has also enabled me to use a glass pour-over kettle I had recently got, which I just didn't have the confidence to use on the direct flame, for fear of thermal shock. There are times when I probably won't need to use it, mainly with the cast iron pans which dissipate heat well themselves, but with thin steel, aluminium and glass kettles, this is a great addition to the kitchen. I plan to also use this when out camping - mainly with a portable gas stove, but also perhaps with a small wood burning camping stove, and I see no reason why it wouldn't serve just as well in all these settings. Particularly useful when most camping pans are very thin and lightweight, so would definitely benefit from some help to distribute the heat more evenly. The handle is easy to slot in/remove when you need to move the plate when hot and can just hang on a hook when not in use, and the plate permanently lives on one of the hobs ready for use. Definitely a product I didn't know existed, or that I needed, but now use regularly. At £20.60 at time of review, this seems fairly priced for the amount of solid steel you're getting.
