Oh, Happy Day! :0)

i have literally just unboxed this portable turntable, plugged it into the mains & put on my 'Nite Flite 2' LP - this is how it should be, easy-peasy. I'm impressed at the amount of things you can do with this machine, I will perhaps one day get around to using it to digitise some of my vinyl. When I do more things with it, I'll update this review. The packaging is better than I had expected it to be; the outer box is sturdy enough, there are protective moulded foam pieces each side of the unit, which is in a large plastic bag for further protection. The UK mains adapter is in one small sealed clear plastic bag. The other sealed clear plastic bag, contains the supplied cables (RCA-out; USB for MP3 conversion; male-male 3.5mm); the user manual; contact details for their customer service; CD-ROM for MP3 conversion program (Audacity); a useful card (with photos), that shows you how to deal with the drive belt. If you find it is not spinning, it's possible the belt worked loose in transit - they do come all the way from China. The user manual is in English - while there are some grammatical snafus, the instructions, and especially the guiding diagrams, are concise & clear (for me, with my glasses on & using a torch!). There doesn't appear to be a warranty card. I'm guessing that, as all the proof you'd need, of when you bought it & had it delivered, is on your Amazon account profile, this is essentially your warranty? Most young'uns are tech-savvy - anybody that is new to this marvellously nostalgic way of enjoying music, should not feel out of their depth.I am a life-long bass-addict (bass-line changed my life) - so, for me, the in-built speakers really aren't cutting it, the bass is almost non-existent - there is certainly not enough of it for my liking. But, the sound is much better with my Samsung ear-bud headphones plugged in to the 3.5mm port, and, even better still, when using the 72-cm-long male-male 3.5mm jack cable supplied - my Anker Soundcore 2 is now giving me the sound quality I want & need. With careful tweaking, getting the volume on the turntable unit and the volume on the speaker just right, there is no distortion - the sound is both digitally-clear & crisp, and analogue-rich & warm, with the characteristic vinyl crackles (not too many - always clean the record before you play it, with specific record-cleaning solution, even/ especially if it's new). The fact the in-built speakers aren't up to much for the audiophiles among us, won't matter to people desperate to get their hands on a portable turntable, that just want to hear old vinyl as it was back in the day. The unit does kick out some volume, but it's not picking up a lot of sounds that are audible through headphones, or the Bluetooth speaker. It copes well on a slightly uneven surface (the edge of my bed), although it's not recommended. The unit feels robust, sturdy & has some weight to it, without being like a breeze-block. The latch closure is nice & easy to use, I do hate latches that leave ridges in your fingers when opening & closing them, but, it is thus equally easy to catch it as you pick the unit up, with the moulded, solid-plastic handle - the clumsy among us need to watch that, because the lid will then fly open. When in use, there are four, small & round, rigid rubber feet mounted - to tighten them when the need arises, you'll just need a teeny Phillips (cross-head) screwdriver. I like that they are not bolted in - ones like that, when they break, cannot easily be replaced. My only issue with the design, is the combined mains/ RCA/ USB port, that's at the back in use, but potentially on the bottom in transit, does not have a cover - something else the clumsy amongst us need to bear in mind, ensuring that, if we do set it down upright, it is on a clean, dry, dust-free surface. Considerable care is necessary in use - heavy-handed people learn this quickly, when they end up breaking the toner arm, its lever or clip, or the stylus, when removing and replacing the stylus guard - softly-softly does it.I just connected via Bluetooth, my old Samsung Wave mobile 'phone, which I use as my MP3 player nowadays. Connection was easy & instant - just turn the knob to 'BT' setting on the turntable & select 'Turntable' in the device's Bluetooth list. With volume function on both the turntable unit and the Anker Soundcore 2 speaker, it is capable of kicking out a lot of great digital sound. No doubt, vinyl will sound superb hooked up to an external amplifier & speakers, using the RCA-cable supplied, too - being able to equalise the sound for different genres of music will make perfect your listening pleasure. It's a neat-looking thing, I love the suitcase design. I bought this in white, because I want to customise it with stickers & decoupage. I can't decide what the surface coating is - it's either a paper-type with a very lightly plasticised fine-grain finish, or a kind of thin matte vinyl? Who cares, eh? When the time comes to decorate it, if the stickers aren't sticking, I'll just lightly abrade the areas with a silicon carbide file to create a key, where I want each sticker to go. If that doesn't work, I'll just use a strong glue!I got it on offer - I keep reminding myself, for 34 quid, I cannot expect studio-quality sound from the built-in speakers, I can easily improve it with a Bluetooth speaker & it sounds fine on headphones - thus, I think it is, very good value for money. So, I'm actually just chuffed to bits with it; strolling down memory lane is bliss - so many records to play, so few hours in a day...P.S. It just occurred to me, I need to find out what model the stylus is, so I can purchase a spare.

Great value, suprisingly good.

The media could not be loaded. Bought for Mum and Dad to play their LP's and share memories. For the money it is superb.Dont expect hifi quality from the in built speakers, but more than adequate as the old songs had little bass anyway. Im a sound engineer so i wasnt expecting earth shattering e.q's.I connected it to a high powered system via the RCA plugs, put on a modedn dance 12" single,,, its a whole new ball game.Great value and looks neat in White with brass details, they can carry it and play it in different rooms. Perfect for my parents 'Ronco' records :)

Great Value

Bought as a present for my teenage daughter. To be honest, I didn’t expect it to be very good for the price paid but wanted an entry level turntable as my daughter is just starting to get in to vinyl.Only tried it briefly before giving it as a present, but I was very impressed with the quality of the unit. It was packed very well and nicely presented. It doesn’t look or feel cheaply made and the sound quality is outstanding and impressive given the size of the speakers. It looks good too. The retro look and compact size make it easily portable and easy to store when not in use.First impressions are excellent so I hope that it proves reliable and durable.

The best record player you can buy

This record player is just perfect. Everything is like in the description. It has a great sound and a gorgeous vintage style. The best thing about this record player is that it doesn't have Bluetooth, and that makes the experience of listening to old vinyls more genuine, like if you really were in that time. I really appreciate the seller's efforts for create a REAL vintage product instead of full it of useless capacities that you don't really need in a record player. I mean, why would I need Bluetooth in a vinyl record player? I'm not buying a speaker! So, in resume, if you are a old-styled person that looks for a back-to-the-past experience, this is your record player.

I don't like it, my daughter loves it and that is the most important thing

My specifically wanted a suitcase record player, despite my recommendations to go for a decent performing player she went for style over substance and it shows in the sound quality. I'll start by saying that she doesn't care, she hasn't been through the evolution of vinyl, tape, AM, MW and FM radio, CDs, mini discs, iPods, she is a child of the streaming generation and therefore doesn't get my grumbles about sound quality. So as far as she is concerned - it's brilliant. And that should be all that matters right? WRONG. Don't mess with your vinyl people!Ok so the suitcase looks smart but it's MDF with good lining. The platter is for 7 inch records but will hold 12 inch discs no problems. The platter has some dampening, the motor is a bit noisy but fair play it has 3 speeds. It has auto stop at the end of a record but it is set wrong so will just stop on the last song always, it doesn't do auto arm return. The arm is cheap and the sound is cheaper, you get more noise through the needle and down the arm when the speaker is low, crank it up and it lacks and finesse. Bass is keeping and treble and definition is even worse. It has usb, line and headphones out but I've never used them and I don't think my daughter ever will.I can't listen to it, but then I had technics with Stanton 500 MKII needless, so I'm a snob. However she loves it, if I hark back to my top loader VHS and the range of Walkman devices I had, my 1st cheap stereo and everything else then I totally change my mind, I laboured for my love of music, she's doing the same, it's her first record player, she'll remember this for ever and I can't take that away from her. So I'm balancing this review out as a 3.
