I have been a collector of U.S. pennies since I was a child. I had a complete collection of Lincoln pennies from 1909 - 2024 from all three mints. I started collecting the Lincoln pennies when I helped my grandmother empty the several 5 gallon water jugs she had tossed all of her loose change into for many years. We were wrapping the pennies in coin wrappers. I asked her if I could have some of the pennies and those were the beginning of my penny collection, Our housekeepers came back to work for us in September of last year after Covid was tamed. We discovered they had been stealing items from our house. The banks here in Houston, TX discontinued Safety Deposit boxes and my pennies had to come home. We don't know when the housekeepers found the pennies, but the whole set of pennies were gone. They have been charged with Grand Theft Larceny. They have to return the pennies to me. Because they sold the pennies, they have to put together a whole set of the pennies from 1909 - 2024 from every mint. The San Francisco mint produced only 450,000 of the 1909 S penny rather than the millions of pennies regularly produced each year by the other mints. The positive news is that the judge's decision is that the housekeepers have to return the penny collection and pay for each individual penny as they find them. That 1909 S penny cost them $8,000.00 and the other 1909 pennies from the Denver and Philadelphia mints were almost as costly. Most of the early pennies are very costly - into the hundreds of dollars - and some are hard to find. I search the internet, find the pennies and send the info to the ex housekeepers. They buy the pennies and submit them to the judge. The pennies are then past on to me by the court.
