3 inch diameter by 3 inch tall Sleeveless Sanding Drum with 6 Sheets of Assorted Grit Sandpaper and a Half Inch Diameter Removable Shank

I normally don't rave about tools unless they are special or like, "how could I have missed this one all my life?". I mean, I've been working with tools since I was nine... so, that's over fifty-five years. It can use regular sandpaper or you can buy a 3" roll. You can cut three strips from a full sheet. With 80 grit Norton aluminum oxide paper, it cuts the fiberglass (FRP) like it were balsa wood and the Norton sandpaper lasts forever. I've used it all over the body of my kit car. Certainly, some advantages to it over an orbital pad sander in the right spot. Works great on curved edges. No issues with getting sandpaper tight. Has 1/2" diameter shaft. The outer covering/layer is a slightly soft neoprene foam material.

I do a lot of small projects and crafts which require a good way to sand edges and create curved shapes. I have used a drum sander for decades but the drum I used required a sleeve. Because of the age of my old drum, I could no longer get the sleeve on. This drum with its design eliminates the hassle of trying to slide a sleeve onto a drum that no longer contracts. As well this gives me the option of changing out the grit to allow for a much smoother finish on edges.

I bought this tool to use in sanding an arched wood piece over doorway using it in my drill press for a stable platform in guiding it. I found it is very poorly designed/engineered and almost impossible to install a new piece of sandpaper onto it. Just no way to get it tight enough to keep my drill press from slinging it off in a short period of time even at a slower speed of rotation. My advice. Do not buy this product at any price. You too will be greatly disappointed.

When a 3 inch drum sander is needed at a reduced price, I'd buy this one. If I intended to use it twice, I'd keep shopping for another..., the reason being you'll have fits getting a sander sheet into the notch. Another thing --- if you do get both ends into the notch, the likelihood of it coming out within 5 seconds can be blamed on the pin that holds them in. The ad for the product states that you use a hex wrench to turn it. Guess what? It's just a round pin having no hex-end symmetry. I used a 5/16 inch bolt and a hammer to remove it, and even then you have to remove the spindle ( 4 screws hold it in). Want to use it once, make yourself happy you didn't need it again, buy this. It performs well, and fit right inside a 3 inch toilet drain to allow a closet flange. I was pleased with it, but then found I'd never get to use it again due to shabby logistics.

Received these 3"x3" sanding drums quickly, and well packaged. Quality of the drum construction appears to be very good materials. These have a 1/2" collar availability so that I can attach them directly to a motor with a 1/2" diameter shaft. These will help me build another adjustable thickness sander for sanding small and thin hobby pieces. The slotted drum provides for easy replacement of different sized grits of sanding paper
