Do you think this winder might work with crochet cotton?

Yes, it works with crochet Cotten. I’ve also used with two and three strands which makes it easy when crocheting with multiple strands.

My yarn is always getting caught in my Lacis winder gears, will that happen with this one too?

This happened with the last yarn winder that I had. Very frustrating! Not with this one. It also will hold the entire hank of yarn. Just have to turn it slowly. Running fast creates problems.

Will this work for an 100g skein of sock yarn?

Yes. 100g is about 3.5 oz, ideally this ball winder is designed for 4oz skeins, though will hold 5oz skeins easily as long as your careful towards the end.

Can you make the ball tighter?

I hold on to the yarn as it feeds into the threader to get a tighter ball, and insert a small wound up index card with yarn specs attached to a plastic clip and insert in the center as I pull the ball off. The ball shouldn’t really be tight because the yarn needs to keep its elasticity.
