Best quality and large size is a good value
You can always count on Golden for the best quality. Excellent gesso and a nice big jar of it.

Excellent Product
I use this product extensively, especially when using composition board as my foundation. I have found no gesso that does as good a job.

Outstanding quality and value!
I am taking an acrylic painting course and needed a variety of brushes. After visiting several local art supply stores, and being overwhelmed, I decided to check Amazon. This item came very highly recommended, and with good reason. The variety of brush sizes and styles is perfect - and these are long-handled brushes, not the little stubby ones that you usually get in a brush set. The teacher, a professional painter, was very impressed with the selection and quality and showed it to all the other students in case they had not yet purchased their brushes....I think that's a pretty strong stamp of approval! I'm excited to paint!

Good gesso but does not dry hard
This is probably a good gesso for certain purposes, perhaps for canvases mainly. However, I was looking for a gesso that would dry hard and chalky, and would be sandable, for use on wood panels. This is not that gesso. This gesso came in a 32oz jar and had a dried skin on the inside of the lid, which I peeled off. Immediately I realized this was a very rubbery, flexible gesso, that even leaves marks when you press your nails into its surface. So if that is the type of gesso you're looking for, this one is for you. If you are looking for a gesso that dries hard, is toothy and chalky, and is sandable, this is not the gesso for you. This gesso is pretty thick, but it is not as thick as, say, the Grumbacher white gesso (which does dry hard and is sandable and is an excellent product). Unfortunately, I only later realized that Golden also makes a "Sandable Hard Gesso" which is the one I should have purchased instead. However, I'm happy with the Grumbacher now but may try the Golden Sandable Hard Gesso in the future. This Golden white gesso seems different than most other gessos I've tried, being so rubbery. Perhaps they should include in the product description that if one is looking for a harder, sandable gesso, one should consider the Sandable Hard Gesso instead. I certainly did not expect this gesso to be so rubbery and soft.

Great for canvas prep
Golden is my favorite gesso to use for preparing canvases for oil painting. Whether I'm using stretched canvas, canvas panels or birch panels, Golden Gesso works well. My order arrived 24 hours after I placed it so I could get to work prepping more canvases right away.

Good quality and consistency
This seems to be an excellent product based on limited use. I used it to cover two boards; one for a painting and one for a “barn” quilt block. Boards were of different woods, but the coverage was good in both cases.
