Oil Painting Secrets from a Master: 25Th Anniversary Edition

This is definately the best Oil Painting book that I have purchased. David Leffell is a very skilled, and I am so glad that his knowledge is being passed on. His way of wording some sentences reveals things that other teachers could not express in words. Not only a fantastic painter, but also a fantastic teacher. This book contains tips and tricks by the bucket full. It even contains a few step by steps that help to emphasise his points. As others may have mentioned, the reproduction of some of the paintings aren't great, but this does not distract the reader from the points he is making, and the paintings are still beautiful, even if slightly blurry. In short - Great book with buckets of information for both the beginner and accomplished painter. A must have in my opinion. 5 stars, easily. Even with some of the images being of low quality.

Well written , clear and informative, a great read for a beginner , and those that thought painting was copying , very insightful .excellent explanation of techniques to achieve your objectives.

More than a few illustrations in this book are appalling. How can one give advice on sharp and soft edges and use blurred images to illustrate. I gave in reading an average if not a little contradictory book after image upon poorly produced image became all too much. Suffice to say it's not one I'll use for future reference. Here's what some of the other reviewers had to say. "The reproductions of some of the paintings aren't great, but this does not distract the reader from the points he is making, and the paintings are still beautiful, even if slightly blury." I'm sorry but I beg to differ. "Most of the reproductions here are out of focus. In a painting technique book, high quality illustrations are essential. Whoever photographed Mr. Leffel's paintings should have visited ophtalmologist first." "I was first struck by the very poor quality of the reproductions: many are blurry to the point of distraction. And despite the opinion of one reviewer, I would caution a beginner to stay away from this book." Enough said.

Laffel is a master! no doubt about that... the book sheds real insights into the art of traditional painting.. concepts, brush work a nice gallery of portraits and still life painted alla prima.. I highly recommend this book for the professional, student or just a lover of fine art!

Para el que busque algo más que el típico libro de iniciación que te vuelve a contar lo mismo. Muchísimas ilustraciones comentadas para que el lector pueda ver de forma gráfica lo que se explica. Algunos conceptos básicos y muchos conceptos complejos. Lecciones magistrales de verdad.

Boas dicas de aulas de pintura, mas nada que valha a pena pagar pelo preço deste livro. as dicas são boas, daquelas que só encontra em aulas de bons pintores (raríssimos hoje em dia), mas se resume apenas ao estilo de pintura de David Leffel. Outros estilos de pintura não são compreendidos. Portanto achei caro pelo conteúdo que apresenta.
