Review: best early practice - very good one Review: The best piano exercises ever! - I grew up on Hanon's Exercises, and wanted to give my current student clean, new copies. Getting to grips with these exercises, and working through them steadily, ensures great flexibility and strength in the fingers, and trains the mind and memory like no other set of exercises does. Despite the pages of black dots, these can be fun to play, quite tuneful (even hummable – try using some of them as vocal exercises too!) and satisfying.

I love the introduction at the beginning and think these exercises ...
I love the introduction at the beginning and think these exercises are very useful for strengthening your fingers. As an adult learning to play all over again, exercises like these are valuable in helping me gain control over my hands. I agree with some reviewers that techniques and understanding have certainly moved on (Hanon's book was published in the 1870s) but you can incorporate one or two of these exercises to your daily warm-up to increase the strength in your fingers which will give you more control. As other reviewers have pointed out, you need to be aware of over-straining so just stop if you feel any strain. There is no need to diligently work your way through the book and play all the exercises. I have Czerny too, and use them both.

Classic piano exercises for improving your technique
This was recommended to me by my piano teacher and other musicians. It‘s a perfect companion if you have a recent Yamaha digital piano as some have the Hanon exercises installed as playable songs. Great publication quality too. The book is a good size and stays open comfortably.

A true drill!
A true drill for every pianist! Love the introduction by the team - really encouraging and understanding pianist's need. Me being strictly classically trained with drill(s) on daily 'menu', I found this realy helpful and encouraging; after 16 exercises already, my fingers seem to gain more strength and already benefit from fit for purpose exercises. Read the other review from a piano teacher - I believe the choice is yours and understand that not everybody is made for Hanon and drills; but it really works for me! Looking forward to buying Book 2! Happy drilling! :)
