Work Great Soak First
I recently purchased the AQUANEAT 6-Pack Pre-Filter Sponge for my aquarium, and I couldn't be happier with the results! These sponges are a game-changer for anyone looking to keep their tank clean and their aquatic pets safe. The sponges fit perfectly over the intake of my filter, preventing baby fish, shrimp, and snails from getting sucked in. They also do an excellent job of catching debris and large particles, which helps keep the water cleaner for longer periods. One of the best features is how easy they are to maintain. Just rinse them periodically based on your tank's bio load, and they hold up well to repeated use. Plus, they come in a vacuum-sealed bag, so they puff up to their normal size once you unpack and rinse them. Overall, the AQUANEAT Pre-Filter Sponges are a fantastic addition to any aquarium setup. They provide both mechanical and biological filtration, ensuring a healthier environment for your aquatic pets. Highly recommended!

Works Great — Perfect for Shrimp and Fry
These little sponges ended up being exactly what I needed. I was just trying to keep baby guppies and shrimp from getting sucked into my canister filter, and this did the trick without messing with the flow too much. It slid right over the intake — no trimming or forcing it on — and it fits snug enough to stay put without zip ties or anything. The sponge itself is a good balance: fine enough to keep the small stuff out, but not so dense that it slows down water flow or clogs every few days. I’ve already seen my shrimp hanging around on it picking off bits, and the fry seem to like the calmer flow near it too. Cleaning it is pretty easy — I just give it a squeeze in tank water during water changes and it’s good as new. Still looks solid after a few rinses. What I liked: - Perfect fit, no cutting or fiddling - Actually works for small shrimp and fry - Doesn’t mess with the filter flow - Rinses out easily and holds up well Nothing fancy, but it solves the problem without hassle. If you're running any kind of tank with tiny swimmers, this is a simple add-on that just works.

Great sponge filter
I purchased this for my tetra whisper iq 60 gallon filter and the sponge fits the intake great. The sponge was a bit short and did not initially cover the entire intake because it is quite long on my filter so I ended up cutting a small portion off of the top of one of the sponges and I put that small piece on the intake first, and then I put one of the sponge filters on to ensure the entire intake was covered. Ive had this installed on my filter for 2 months and it has been working great and is keeping plant material out of my filter.

works as needed to keep small fish out of intake tube
bought these to cover over the intake tube on the fish tank filter to keep out small fish or frye that would either get sucked up into the filter. It also acts as a first stage filter. I use a zip tie to keep them on... Works great

Great product!
I used these over a standard glass intake pipe. They prevent my shrimplets and baby fish from getting sucked in while filtering out some of the solid matter. Easy to clean for reuse and perfect fit over standard size pipes.

Fits Fluval Canister 07 series uptake strainer. Bottom of sponge is thick! Yes, they get round.
Yes, they come vacuum sealed and flatter than pancakes! A few minutes in water, they start to fluff back out, and once it's on the uptake tube, it LOOKS round. **FITS the Fluval 07 series strainer & uptake** to just above the strainer. (I place a no-metal hairband on the top to keep the shrimp safe from going *inside* the sponge from the top and getting sucked into the filter. I think they are well made, and the inside bore leaves OVER 1/2" of sponge at the bottom which is GREAT for filtration quality. These were EXACTLY what I needed. Glad I didn't let the negative reviews stop me from trying these! (And, I did not note any odor to these at all.)

Work great
These work great. For the people complaining they’re flat they obviously didn’t read the directions. They come vacuum packed and once you soak them in water for about an hour they puff right up. They fit the intake of my Fluval 207 just fine and I’ve found my neocardina just chilling on the sponge picking algae out of it. No worries about shrimp or guppy fry getting sucked up.

Not as pictured...
The pictures you see are not what you'll get and are not tight enough with having to cable tie them in place. These come in a thoroughly flattened envelope within an envelope within another envelope. They are incredibly flat and in a pouch shape not round or cylindrical as shown in the pictures. The instructions say to let them soak for 5-10 minutes. Did that and they puff up a little larger but still are somewhat pouch shaped, not really cylindrical. The foam included is also not as coarse of material as shown in the pictures. They are much more dense foam and will require more suction power to draw water through them. These will decrease flow ability of your filter because of the smaller hole sizes of this sponge material. I also have problems getting them to stay on the intake tube adapter and had to cable tie them. I might as well have wrapped a dish cleaning foam square around the tube. The ones they specify for Aquaclear 20 are the right length but way to big of a hole and fit very loosely. Not real thrilled with either the flattened shape (they are clearly manufactured as pouches in shape), or the grain of the foam. I'll be lucky to not have to remove these for cleaning daily due to the small openings of this foam clogging. This is more like final stage foam filtering than the very coarse grain wanted. Just not the same size as pictured at all. I expected some reduction in flow. But while not closely measured, I would estimate water intake to now be less than 1/2 of what it is was without them. I wanted good flow but the ability to protect shrimp and snails too. They do that but at a reduced flow. I left 3 stars as they might work for a day or two in an emergency but are not well suited for Aquaclear filter intakes due to the finer grain and very loose fit. A smaller HOB might be somewhat useable as they don't pump as hard, but expect 1/3 to 1/2 the water movement and your water will likely warm up too.

Not acceptable for Aquaclear HOB's. Too fine, too small, too short. Not at all like what's pictured, don't waste your time or money.

Fits well but clongs very quickly..

Got them today. Nothing like pictured came crushed by the vac slealed bag and has a hole punched all the way through with the core pushed back inside

0.6 inch instead of 1 inch so won't fit on my intake, foam is really soft and very fine holes which will quickly clog instead of the large courser holes that will allow adequate flow. very poor quality compared to what is shown in images.
