Restless Heart - Greatest Hits

I don't listen to a lot of country music fan as a rule, but these guys are very professional, accomplished singers and musicians. Wonderful flow of music, the first listen to the album I liked every song, consider myself a fan of Restless Heart. Saw Larry Stewart do a couple of songs on CMT and thought I need to get some music by Restless Heart and am very pleased with the purchase of this CD.

I really wouldn't classify Restless Heart as a typical country group. Let's face it, when I hear the name "Restless Heart," I don't categorize them with country staples such as the Statler Brothers, Oak Ridge Boys, or even Alabama. I do see them fitting in somewhere along the lines of Little Texas and the Desert Rose Band, however. This album is a great compilation for the casual fan and the hardcore Restless Heart listener. It includes all of their biggest radio hits like "The Bluest Eyes In Texas," "I'll Still Be Loving You," and "Why Does It Have To Be." It bridges the time when Larry Stewart was in the group to the time that he was out of it. The biggest hits minus Stewart are here("When She Cries" and "Dancy's Dream"). For some reason, "Mending Fences" is left off of this compilation, but I'll live. I managed to see this group minus Stewart a few years ago when they were supporting their "Big Iron Horses" album. They were excellent. Their appeal was evident in the crowd that night, what with everyone from cowboys to preppies and even a few bikers roaming around. Restless Heart was one of those groups who just played their own style of music. It wasn't really country, but then again, it really wasn't adult contemporary either. They snuggled up to both crowds and did it without changing their style. They didn't become popsters like Faith Hill because it brought in more money. They didn't have to change because they believed in their own music. That's a rare quality in the country scene these days, and I commend them for sticking to their guns. Get this album if you enjoy groups like Little Texas, Desert Rose Band, maybe even the Eagles. Also, I think Diamond Rio and Nitty Gritty Dirt Band fans can appreciate these guys as well. Check them out.

These guys are the best! This disc is sampling of their great music. This is a small collection of their music. I would suggest picking up all of their albums, as there are a lot of great songs that could not be included here. This is a must have!

This compilation album was released by RCA in 1998 and reached number 47 on the country albums chart. It includes three new tracks No End To This Road For Lack Of Better Words Somebody's Gonna Get That Girl The first two of which were released as singles. The group had disbanded in 1994 after the release of the Matters Of The Heart album and four of the five original members are present here. The missing member was Dave Innis on keyboards. This is an excellent introduction to anyone new to the band and their wonderful harmony vocals which everyone compares to Eagles. After this album they again split up until 2004.

Este debe de ser uno de los pocos grupos de pop, rock y otros géneros musicales que hayan publicado más de media docena de trabajos y que no aparezca su nombre en un artículo de la Wikipedia. Al menos en español no aparece, quizá porque los discos de Restless Heart no se han comercializado aquí por los medios habituales en los que aún no existía internet ni Amazon, es decir en tienda de calle. En cualquier caso sorprende que haya sido así, ya que la música ochentera de Restless Heart es comercial, pop y asequible a todo tipo de oídos musicales en donde no quepa la música orquestada clásica ni la folclórica. Parece destinada ahí, a ese lugar común y accesible de la cómoda mediocridad que no nos perturba de la abstracción de las faenas diarias, a tenerla de fondo sin prestarle la más mínima atención. Pero siendo pop y comercial, la música de Restless Heart al menos tiene estilo propio, no deambula entre diferentes fórmulas pop para vender más. Y ese estilo propio se llama country, pop country, y se manifiesta en el uso de la guitarra acústica, en el uso rítmico de la guitarra eléctrica con ausencia de solos en la estructura interna de las canciones, en una percusión suave, sin estridencias y en las armonías y sincronías vocales. Respecto al presente CD de grandes éxitos del grupo, decir que lo adquirí tras haber escuchado en streaming su versión de "Wichita Lineman", la prestigiosa balada country compuesta por Jimmy Webb a mayor gloria del cantante Glen Campbell. Y sin duda la de Restless Heart es la mejor versión, incluida la del propio Campbell, de la veintena o treintena de adaptaciones de todo tipo publicadas desde aquel lejano 1969. La lástima es que el mejor tema de la discografía de Restless Heart no aparezca en este recopilatorio de 1998, algo normal, ya que la versión de la que hablamos es de 2016. Pero lo podrían haber reeditado con la inclusión de este tema. Sin embargo, a pesar de ello adquirí el CD como armonioso fondo de tareas rutinarias, como rutinaria es la música de Restless Heart. Y no para escuchar y disfrutar con los cinco sentidos. Decir que los temas más valorados por los consumidores de este grupo son esas baladas que recuerdan a algunas de 'Eagles', como "The Blues Eyes in Texas" o "A Tender Lie". Sin embargo, para mí, aunque más almibarados en sus letras, me quedo con la calidad melódica de temas como "Heartbreak Kid" o "I'll Still Be Loving You", que tienen personalidad propia. El resto da la sensación de haber escuchado esos temas a otros artistas o formando parte de bandas sonoras de industriales telefilmes de consabido argumento; o recuerdan a la posible discografía de la tripulación del "barco del amor", o sea, "Vacaciones en el mar", el famoso serial televisivo de comedia romántica de los ochenta. Claro que tratándose de un grupo que se llama 'Inquieto Corazón' (en español), ¿qué se puede esperar? Para finalizar, decir que en conjunto es un disco bueno, digerible, de tres estrellas. Sin embargo le añado una más por la extraordinaria producción y calidad de sonido de los que muchos trabajos de artistas más prestigiosos y conocidos carecen. Excepcional es la remasterización en alta definición, HDCD, que debió ser casi pionero en aquel año de 1998. Con lo que los 24 bits de las que muchas carátulas se pavonean en sus respectivas remasterizaciones se quedan obsoletos. ¿Acaso es mejor 24 bits de definición que el HDCD?

あまり日本では馴染みのないカントリー系のカテゴリーにはいるバンドだが、“カントリーはちょっと…”というポップスリスナーでも自信を持って薦められる。カントリー調ではあるが、ところどころ心を打たれるメロディーを織り交ぜたサウンドはへたなＰＯＰミュージックよりもはるかに魅力的だ。特に彼らのバラードチューンはすばらしい。決して大げさにではなく静かに切なくさせる曲調はベテランのメロディーメイカーとしての貫禄さえ感じる。カントリーのヘヴィーリスナーには当然“邪道”の部類に入る彼らかもしれないが、単純に良い曲が聞きたいという人には絶対にオススメ。まずこのベストアルバムを聴いて気に入ったのなら他のオリジナルアルバムにも手を伸ばして欲しい。もっと売れても良いバンドなのに、こういうのを過小評価なんだなとつくづく思ってしまう。
