Are these for cooking in a slow cooker overnight? Thanks.

I cook as directed by the package and it works 100%. I am not sure of the way you are mentioning but there are two cooking alternatives on the packaging. I believe they will clarify. I always do the first but have tried the second which works just as well. 1) Irish Porridge (My Summary) Add the porridge to boiling water and when it begins to thicken you simmer for 30 minutes. (There is a little more then this in the packaging description but it’s pretty much this) 2) Short Cut Steel Cuts Method Boil four cups of water in a pot. Add 1 cup of oats and simmer for 1 min. Cover pot and store overnight in refrigerator. The next morning cook the oatmeal on low for 9-12 min, stirring occasionally. For thicker oatmeal use less water. I hope this was helpful. Best wishes,

Is this what the Americans would call oat groats?

my visiting American friends say not quite. This is a product where the oats have been sliced up. Groats are not sliced. The equivalent of sliced bread versus unsliced bread. Hope this helps.
