Great quality and functional kettle
The best kettle! Looks so sleek. Very simple to use and you can adjust the temperature. Isn’t too loud when heating either. Great to use for making tea or coffee and pours nicely and gives lots of control. Pretty easy to clean as well. Overall really love this kettle and highly recommend it!

5 Stars with a couple shortcomings.
Heats quickly. Temperature dial counts up to set temperature. Easy to control pour. Remembers last temperature set. All of this makes for a very nice electric kettle and the reason I purchased it. However a couple of things makes this not an ideal kettle for me. The first is that the timer only counts up and cannot be used unless the water is heated first. Not a major issue, but it would have been nice if the timer was more flexible. The other issue that the lid is constructed in such a way that it traps moisture and when you remove it, the water drips onto whatever is underneath. Therefore, I would keep the kiddies away from it until the water cools. While, I still prefer the design of my stove top kettle, I think the OXO is a great solution for those of us (cough-cough) who have tendency to boil-dry a non-electric kettle. Update: April, 2024. I've noticed for a couple of months that the kettle has stopped brewing to 212 Fahrenheit and is stopping at 210. I've descaled it several times thinking the probe might be getting calcified, but nothing has worked.

A great kettle - better than the Bonavita
I bought this to replace a Bonavita 1L Digital Variable Temperature Gooseneck Electric Kettle which had its handle break off after 7 years of dutiful service. It was a pretty good kettle, but they've literally made no changes to its design or feature set since its introduction. This review is going to be a comparison review to that kettle, as the OXO Kettle fixes almost every single complaint I had about the Bonavita and introduces only very minor complaints - if you're cross-shopping these kettles, just buy this one. Pros: * Heats up much much faster than the Bonavita - the OXO is 1500W to the Bonavita's 1000W, and it's less shy about getting to temperature faster (for light roast coffee, getting it to 205-208F would take forever as it started conservatively cycling on and off around 190F). * Pours about 50% faster than the Bonavita at full tilt (and about twice as fast as the Fellow Stagg). This is a huge plus if you're using it for tea, instant coffee, or noodles. It still pours just as slowly as the others when you want it to. * It beeps when it reaches set temperature, and you don't need to press a second button to automatically hold temp for 30 minutes. Ties: * Both hold the same amount of water and take up the same amount of counter space (pretty minimal footprint). * Both let you set to any temperature in 1F increments. Cons: * The dial is not as quick to cycle through wide temperature changes (e.g., going from light roast coffee at 205-208F down to green tea at 175F is a quick set of 3-4 button clicks on the Bonavita but a lot of dial turning with the OXO). * You have to hit the on button twice to start to heat up. If you hit the on button and step away, it will just turn itself off. This con could be a safety benefit if you have kids or pets that get up on the countertop.

The best kettle I have owned
This kettle is great. It pours fast enough to use for tea and it gives plenty of control for a pour over. The handle is at a good angle, it has a silicone cove that does not get hot and gives really good grip in your hand. The lid also has a silicone handle so you can remove it when the kettle is hot with no issues. The base is super easy to use. You can set the temp you want and press a button to start it, not complicated at all and it stays hot for 30min if you do not cancel it. If I am being really picky I wish it had a separate physical on off button. like one that clicks or slides into either an off or on position, just for my own piece of mind. I am happy with my choice, it works great.

Perfect for me
I was looking for a gooseneck kettle that was simple to use, had a temperature display, automatically kept the water hot (for 30 minutes), was fast, poured well, had a comfortable handle, had a built-in timer, had a decently long cord with the ability to stow away the excess cord, would automatically shut off if it was too low on water, and no internal plastic. This kettle checked ALL the boxes. You press the button once to turn it on, adjust the temperature, if necessary (I rarely do), and press the button again to start heating the water. It beeps when it gets there (but not loud enough for me to hear). Possible negatives (but not for me): Changing the temperature often (It will go as low as 104 F.) 1500 watts, makes it very fast, but could be a problem for some About 1 liter capacity, you might want more Can't disable the beep (but I can't hear it anyway) I use the kettle almost exclusively for pour-over coffee, and I occasionally change the temperature a little. If I want a cup of tea, I just use whatever temperature it's set to. (I'm not a tea connoisseur.) If I were flipping back and forth from perhaps 170 to 205, adjusting the kettle with its rotary dial would be cumbersome, so if that describes you, I'd suggest looking for a different one.

I bought this kettle after reviewing several other similar electric variable temperature-controlled gooseneck kettles on the market (there are really only about 4 or 5 worth considering). My main purpose is to use it for daily pourover coffee brewing, in which both temperature control and precision pouring are important (but not necessary). It ended up replacing my other basic kitchen kettles (e.g. the big box store kind), and it has been an excellent daily driver. Great points: • Dial and button are very intuitive to use: turn the dial to temperature and push to start • Keep-warm feature is no-fuss, switches automatically and keeps temperature even after you remove and replace the kettle without any additional button pressing • Very quick to heat: 1L of filtered water from room temperature (22°C) to boil (100°C) took approximately 4:40; at more typical coffee brewing temperatures (90-95°C) the water will be heated somewhere between 4:00 and 4:30 - basically the same amount of time it will take to grind and set up your brewer for the morning. The speed of heating is due to the 1500W power draw, which is one of the highest for variable temperature kettles and comparable to many quick-boil devices. For comparison, you can calculate that a 1200W device will take about 6:00 to come to a boil from room temperature and a 1000W device will take about 7:15. Will those couple of minutes change your life? No, but you will encounter it every day and it does help if you're the impatient sort like me. • Built-in timer is easy to access and use, it counts up as a stopwatch would, perfectly suitable for timing your coffee pours - you won't find any way to adjust it to a countdown or anything more fancy than that Points of note: • The capacity is pretty much exactly 1L as advertised. Measuring 1L from a beaker and pouring into the kettle will reach just at the bottom of the "Max" fill line. Since this is a gooseneck kettle, it is not really possible to over-fill above the line, since pouring water much above the line will result in spilling over the top of the kettle spout and any water bubbling as it boils will likely cause boiling water to spill out (this is not a design flaw, as every gooseneck kettle will have this issue due to the physics at work). • The power draw at 1500W is not generally a problem if you have a proper household wiring system. Older houses with questionable circuits and less tolerant breakers will probably face some issues, particularly if this is plugged into the same outlet as, say, a microwave or a toaster oven operating at the same time. For most houses there shouldn't be a problem. This is an excellent device and is an improvement over other manufacturers' designs. It also conforms to OXO's industrial design sensibilities and is a decent looking addition to your countertop if you are into the classic brushed stainless steel look. Of course, the appearance is subjective, but the design is timeless with the simple dial and read-out without additional buttons. Definitely recommend.

Dangerous product. High risk of burning yourself. Hot steaming water comes out of gooseneck when boiling water. I added 350ml of water and started the kettle. Boiling was fast but I almost burned myself. I was lucky when I want not near the kettle the first time, I used it. When the water started boiling a steaming hot jet stream came out of the gooseneck. Do not even consider buying this product. It has a design defect and should be withdrawn fro the market immediately.
