Yes. 50 amp is the rating of the contacts.

What gauge wires are being used with the switch? They look thin!

The wires that you see are just for the transfer switch to sense what is going on and used to pull the relays down. For the 50A Switch, your wires would probably be #6 Gauge but see an online Wire Gauge Chart for your application.
